Removing wallpaper
My future MBR is covered in old, blue wallpaper. There's a half bath that looks like it belongs to Austin Powers - the wallpaper is orange, silver, and brown. How do I take this down and prep the walls for paint? Any recommendations for someone I can hire?

We did it ourselves. We bought one of those scoring rollers and a spray and then used scrapers. The paper in our kitchen and dining room was a breeze to get down. We had just a border in our master bedroom and that was a nightmare. You never know how bad it will be until you try.

How long did it take to do it yourself?

I did my mom's house myself. Some areas were relatively easy, others took forever. It depends on whether you have strippable wallpaper or not. Mom's was not, so I had to scratch it up first so that the wallpaper remover could soak into it, then after waiting 10 - 15 minutes for it to soften, I would use different size scrapers to scrape it off. I washed the walls down afterwards to get the old paste glue off and get the walls ready for painting.

Ugh! I still have nightmares about taking down the wallpaper in my place!!! We used the spray on stuff and also rented a giant steamer from Home Depot and scraped it all off. After, the walls were in such bad shape that I had to hire someone to come in and skim coat the walls before I could paint them.
DH and I have started house hunting and he knows I will not even consider a house with wall paper on the walls, I am too traumatized lol.
