Had my April baby in May!
Hello, ladies! Just writing to share the news that my beautiful daughter, Madelyn Paige, was born on 5/3 at 3:17AM weighing 7lbs 14oz and measuring 20 inches long! I was originally due on 4/28, so went a few days late. I went to the OB on Fri 5/1 and she stripped my membranes to jump start things and it did exactly that. My appointment was at 10:30AM and by the time I got home and did some chores around the house, I started cramping and having contractions (although they were pretty far apart and inconsistent). Out of nowhere, they just stopped and I was super bummed because I thought for sure that was it and I was going to go the hospital. I slept for most of the day on Friday and made DH come home early from work because I really didn't feel well. I woke up on Saturday feeling blah but things seemed to be calm. I was going stir crazy in the house, so asked DH to come to Target with me to walk around and kill some time. As we were driving to Target, I had 2 contractions and did the math in my head -- took us about 14 minutes to get there, 14 divided by 2 is 7 -- 7 minutes apart. I thought it was probably nothing and like it had the day before, it would just go away and stop. We walked around the store and contractions were still coming. About 45 minutes of wandering the aisles, my contractions were 5:45 apart. We came home, picked up our bags, dropped our dog off at the boarding facility and headed to LIJ. I was checked into triage to be evaluated before being official admitted and they confirmed I was definitely in labor. Got checked into a labor and delivery room around 8:30pm and was about 4cm. Checked about 2 hours later and was 5cm. Doctor came in and broke my water after which the contractions became unbearable -- I asked for an epidural and got one relatively quickly (thankfully anesthesiologist was in room right next door). They checked me again and I had gone to 8cm. About an hour later, I was fully dilated but still waiting for baby to get into position so stayed at 10cm and 100% effaced for about an hour. The nurse told me we were going to do some practice pushes before the doctor would come in for the real deal. I started pushing around 2AM and baby girl was born at 3:17AM! We're both doing great. Everyone at LIJ was fantastic!
