Temporary Tubes in ears as an adult

I had a tube in my ear about 6 years ago. It ended up being a pretty simple procedure and was totally worth it!

Thank you for responding! I'll be awake for this- were you? Do you remember it being painful putting it in? As you can see, I'm a little nervous...

Re: Temporary Tubes in ears as an adult

My friend got a tube put in when she was 27. She was awake and in the office. Her ear was numbed and I don't think she felt any pain but she did say it was weird. I don't know what that means. Then it just fell out one day.

I was! It was a really quick and easy process. He numbed my eardrum, made the incision and put the tube in. I expected to have some pain or other issues but really had no problems at all! I flew that weekend, and it was so nice, my ears didn't kill me during takeoff!

My biggest "issue" was my crazy friends that teased me about it since most of the time it's little ones getting tubes, not adults! Chat Icon

The one thing I would caution you about is to wear ear plugs in water like they tell you. I did get water in my ear once when swimming and it hurt pretty bad, but that's the only issue I had.

When it fell out, I was in church and just felt some pressure, I leaned my head over onto my hand and felt something come out, and there it was, this little tiny blue tube. :)

Good luck! Don't be afraid, I'm sure they will be great and well worth it!
