Need some house dust and prayers please! -- Update 6/22
When we house hunted it was horrible. We lost a bunch of houses. And even the one we bought had its share of drama. IMO if this guy is playing games now he will the entire time and I'd walk. There are other houses out there and you will find something.

we experienced something very similar... we walked. the guy called back 2 weeks later saying he reconsidered our offer... we had already found another house for a hell of a lot less $$.

It is tortuous at the time but once you are in the house you love it's all a distant memory, I hope it works out for you!!!
