Dog squinting and blinking one eye?
I came home from work today and my pit bull seems to have some irritation in her left eye. She greeted me just as exuberantly as usual and seems like herself, but her left eye is constantly squinted or blinking excessively. I checked her eye and I don't see anything IN it. She also doesn't seem bothered by it- not scratching it or rubbing her face on anything- aside from the blinking. It does also appear a little "lazy" when she first opens it. When something catches her attention, she seems to forget to coddle her left eye and opens them both wide, but you see a lot more white than usual. After a few seconds it focuses and looks completely normal, but it does seem a little slower. I'm going to take her to our vet in the morning if she still seems irritated, but I was wondering if anyone had an experience. I'm hesitant to flush the eye with tepid water like most sites suggest because I really don't see anything in there. And she let me really examine it....

My little one once scratched his eye running into a bush after a ball. We didn't think anything of it until he was doing what you describe. We brought him to vet who put that glowing dye into his eye and showed us he scratched it. We had to put drops in for a week or so and he was fine.

Ahh thank you. I'm assuming it's a scratch, but was just a little worried because of the laziness of the eye. My vet is actually closed today- I keep thinking it's Thursday, not Wednesday! - so I called the emergency vet and he said as long as she's not pawing at it I'm better off waiting to see my regular vet tmrw.
