So sad

Our neighbors are dear friends and we pet sit for each other when we travel. They bought their house in 2002, we bought ours in 2004. Since then we've had 4 dogs between us die, plus I've had several of my pet chickens and rabbits.
My neighbors were away for 12 days, just got back on Sunday.
As usual I watched their two cats. Billy who is 15 and the last "original" pet from when we all moved here and their younger cat who is my cats brother that they adopted
Billy has been getting skinny and has had a loss of appetite. I made sure he ate at least a little everyday they were away. I also spent a lot of time at their house with him everyday because I could tell he wanted the attention.
Well when they got home they thought billy looked skinnier ( I think it just looked worse to him because they hadn't seen him) so they took him to the vet.
Well it turns out he had very advanced cancer ( no surprise) and they ethunised him
I'm so sad about it!
I feel so bad, I know I had nothing to do with it but I just feel terrible! I can't stop thinking about his face snuggling up to me!
I know he crossed the rainbow bridge and now he's with all the dogs that he grew up with but its so sad!

very sad, but you gave him the extra attention and love he needed while his family was away. You noticed he needed some extra time. I hope when you think him and that you find comfort

Oh that's so sad. They were lucky to have you there. How great it is nice to have nice neighbors who look out for each other.
