When I see commercials for Zofran lawsuit...

I get upset. I had bad morning sickness and took zofran from weeks 6-20. About halfway through that time period I heard about the zofran birth defects lawsuit. I asked my dr and a dr at the hospital about it and they said they considered it safe. I researched (google) the lawsuit and studies its based on, but I still feel uneasy. Truthfully, i already took the med so nothing i can do about it now. Is anyone else worried about this? My 20 wk u/s came back normal. Im 32 weeks now.

If there were really that many babies with birth defects the drug would not be used. These commercials are used to get people to call so the attorneys can make money.

I think it's one of those things where some will be fine and others will have issues. Kind of like with certain medications or vaccines, how some kids handle them well while others have severe reactions. With Zofran, I think it's safe to say that not every pregnancy will be affected negatively. But at the same time, just because so & so took it and was fine, doesn't mean it's "Safe" either. So personally, I wouldn't touch it at this point. But being that you already have and that your anatomy scan came back good, I think you'll be fine. Try not to stress out about it.

I've taken zofran since I was 7 weeks. Without it I was vomiting 10-20 times a day and was severely dehydrated. It is SIGNIFICANTLY more dangerous to be severely dehydrated during pregnancy than take something that no one has confirmed can cause birth defects. And no one HAS confirmed this. I read through the data and nothing jumped out at me, and I'm a medical researcher. I write drug studies for a living, so I know what I'm reading.

Anyone who says "I would NEVER take that" obviously wasn't dealing with HG, because if they were their doctor would explain risk/benefit to them. Don't let those people make you feel bad....I'm sure your little peanut will be just fine!

I took for both pregnancies, I could not eat and felt like I was slowly starving. Thank God for zofran. I gained a total of 15 pounds because of that drug after losing way too much weight. My kids are perfect and healthy in every way. I feel very badly for anyone that had issues, but for me I'm glad it was available.

Re: When I see commercials for Zofran lawsuit...

I have 3 kids who are perfectly healthy from taking zofran for basically the entire pregnancy. I will say for this pregnancy, I am not, but I am taking another prescription bc of morning sickness. I just feel like having this new information, it made me second guess it and I don't need any more stress about blaming myself (because let's be real, moms blame themselves for everything lol). I feel comfortable with my decision, but if what I'm taking isn't working, I'll end up back on zofran. Anyways what I was getting at, is I think it's normal to be worried, bc your a mom and that's what we do lol, so welcome to motherhood, it's wonderful and scary lol.

I don't believe this lawsuit at all. I was on Zofran my entire pregnancy from 10 weeks up til I gave birth. My daughter is fine. I had faith in my doctor that she would never prescribe anything to me that would be harmful to my baby.
And would never second guess taking it again, it was the only thing that was able to get me thought the pregnancy.

I was on it for 2 kids as well. 18 weeks for the first. 14 weeks for the second. Both perfectly healthy! I wouldn't worry!
