Clomid?

Asking this prematurely, but I'm afraid that my age + 15 years on BC has frozen my ovaries. Does one have to go to an RE for this, or do regular OBGYNs also prescribe?

Re: Clomid?

my regular OB did clomid and IUI for me in 2009 which conceived my DS.

I went back to him this year for #2 and we did clomid and IUI's (3 rounds) with no luck.

so your OB can give you clomid. but as i've learned the hardway best for an RE to do it so they can monitor you while on it.

Clomid?

you can get it from your OB BUT DON"T! Do nto waste your time. An OB will not monitor you like an RE or do as much pretesting.

I know from experience!!!!

Agreed, you are only supposed to take clomid 6 times in your life. I would wait to go to an RE.

So many reasons why the OB is not the right person if you're having problems getting pregnant. The OB helps you deliver a healthy baby. The RE gets you pregnant.

Re: Clomid?

I wouldn't say I'm having trouble getting pregnant. Yet. We've only been trying 2 months but I'm on the older side (37) and I was on bc for 15 years and someone put it into my head that maybe my ovaries stopped working. I'm going to try an opk this month for the first time so we'll see.

In 10 months, I've gotten pregnant twice. One resulted in an early mc, and the other was ectopic. My OB is going to do an hsg test for me, and then will be putting me on clomid to "speed it up" for next time. If you talk to your OB about your age and other concerns, they will probably give it to you. you may have to fudge a bit about how long you've been trying, so they think you've been trying a bit longer :)

Re: Clomid?

You can get cloud from your OB but most likely you will not be monitored (some OBs give it out like candy). If you are considered about infertility I strongly suggest you make an appointment with an RE. I swore I was the issue... 33 years old (thought I should have gotten pregnant many times when I was younger) and on birth control since 18. Threemonths after my 34th birthday I saw an RE and learned if I was the issue it was unexplained and that my husband had low motility. We did IUI with clomid/ovadril and conceived our first baby. Sadly I lost the pregnancy at 8 weeks but we did it again and I'm going for my first sono on Thursday. For 2 years I thought I did something and it was a quite simple fix for us... just need this to stick!
Please go to an RE, I personally feel you're wasting time trying to have your OB diagnose you without the proper tests and monitoring.

i was in your same situation. 37 and on bc for 15 years.

we got pregnant on our 3rd month which sadly ended with a MC, but then found out 6 weeks later that i was pregnant again!

dont let your age and bc scare you.

i can say that the first two months i used opks and was so into tracking and doing it at the right time. it made me crazy.

month 3 i let it go and said it will happen when it's supposed it...and it did. even after the MC, i really just let it be, and i got pregnant right way.

i know some people DO need medical intervention. but dont assume that you will and dont worry so much in the beginning. just enjoy life and sex and see what happens.

my doc said to make myself feel better, to call and make an appointment with an RE in 6 months from that day. and then just chill out. well, i never made the appointment, but i think knowing that i could in 6 months if i wanted to really helped me relax.

good luck!

When did you come off of the BC? It can take months for your body to regulate back into regular cycles. Using an opk will help you figure out when you are ovulating. Temping will help you as well. 2 months is not long at all, I wouldn't worry yet.

I'm 100% with you. We are in about the same place, I'm 35 but was off and on birth control over the last 17 years. I had normal periods before I went back on BC a few years ago and have been off for 8 months and periods have changed drastically (used to have 30 day cycles, now down to 25 and ovulating on Day 18, short luteal phase). My doctor is telling me I can still get pregnant with a 7 day luteal phase but I read so much online that she's it's not possible....so I'm curious to see what you decide too!

Either way, good luck to you!

I saw my regular doctor before we decided to TTC and she gave me a clean bill of health. In fact, prior to being on BC I had a super regular cycle (about 24-25 days, with a 3 day period) and my body went right back to that after 1 month off BC. Now whether or not I'm ovulating I don't know. The last 2 months we just tried winging it, with no luck. This month I'm going to use an OPK so I'm know more. Good luck to you!!!

I think you have only been off the pill for a short time. Dont let people scare you. Give yourself sometime to enjoy just ttc and try not to stress too much. I know easier said then done. Good Luck!
