Farmingdale
We are considering the Farmingdale area for our next home. I am somewhat familiar with the middle and high shcool but not elementary. Can you tell me about them or really which to avoid? Any comments on the school system as a whole? Is the area by the train and the college good or one to avoid? I really appreciate any feedback.

Farmingdale
My personal opinion is that I wouldn't move there. Some areas are very nice, and compared to other areas of nassau, you could definitely get a nicer home for less $$. However, the schools aren't that great (from a teacher's perspective). I had alot of friends from there but they all went to Catholic school because it was just known that the schools aren't very good. A friend of mine currently has her kids enrolled in the farmingdale schools (one in middle school and the other in elem.), and is really upset about how far behind her middle schooler is in math. She was talking to a few others at a party, and their kids were alot further ahead in the curriculum than her child is. She is now paying a tutor to catch her up with everyone else
not sure about which areas are nicer than the others so i can't help with that. Only knew about the schools. For me personally, I chose a neighborhood with better schools but sacrificed a smaller home. Because less and less people are going to private schools, people around here are looking solely at areas with good public schools, and I felt that I would get a better price for my home down the road because of that

The elementary schools are good. Are they the best on the island.... No but they are far from bad. I did lots of research before I moved here. My moms a teacher and taught in multiple districts. She reached out and all reviews were good.
Fm me with any questions. I have been here almost 6 years now.

Re: Farmingdale
As a realtor, I can't comment on schools, but a lot of my clients prefer/find desirable the Northside and Albany Ave (technically in N. Massapequa but Farmingdale school district). [I also have a close relative who teaches in the district.]

We are Massapequa Park but Farmingdale Schools. DD is zone for Albany Avenue. We are new to the area but all the parents I met so far with kids in the Farmingdale schools seem to be happy with the school district. We knew when we bought Farmingdale HS wasn't considered the best of the best like Jericho or Syosset but that's fine with us. From what I understand the HS from my has a lot of good programs which is very important to me.
I think S. Farmingdale is considered to be a very nice area. Can't speak for the rest of Farmingdale since I don't know much. Good luck on your search!

I went to AA for elementary school and I still have great memories.
To the OP...I went through the Farmingdale school system from elementary and graduated from FHS. I grew up in Massapequa Park and then Farmingdale. I didn't have any negative experiences. My siblings all went through the school district too. I do feel that the High school is more diverse now than 15-20 years ago, which isn't a bad thing.
I hope what I am about to say makes sense... I personally feel that every district will have some sort of negative. I also feel that districts evolve and cycle through. So while you may be in a "good' school district now, but you have an infant, nobody knows what that HS will be in 15 years. We live in NJ now and happen to live in area that is probably comparable to Syosett or Jericho. We live in a desirable school district and great schools.org rates it a 9 out of 10 I believe. My kids are doing well so far, except, it is really hard to prove that your kids need intervention when it may not be that obvious. It is such a battle. We do not have special ed. classes in all the elementary schools. Out of 5 schools, 1 has it. With that being said, our town and the town over have a very large drug problem. They use prescription drugs, heroin and something called Molly's. I have a friend of friend that sent their teenager to rehab. That same thing is happening in Farmingdale too, chances are it is happening in Jericho also, you just may not hear about it.
My advise would be to go to the Middle and High School and talk to the principles and dean and see how you feel. See how they answer your questions and the feeling you get for the school. Farming dale is a very tight knit community. Last year, when those 4 or 5 kids died on Mother's day, the HS offered grief counseling for a long time. The kids and the teachers were so distraught, but they were all their for one another. The HS teachers still remain friends with students (I still am with one).

Yup....you never know. What is considered a great school district now may not be so much in 10 years and vice versa.
Also the drugs are EVERYWHERE. When our inspector came to our house for the inspection he said..you're going to love the area, it's really nice...the HS had a huge heroin problem but they recently cleaned it up . He was referring to Massapequa HS which is considered one of the best in Nassau County.

Re: Farmingdale
I live in farmingdale and love it. There are a lot of young families here. The district offers so many programs for kids. They also have great sport programs. The town library is amazing and hAve nice programs for kids. 2 of my friends moved here and love it too. The town is cute with a lot of things for families to do. They recently spruced it up over the past few years. When we were looking I was originally turned off to it by what I heard ...but my husband grew up in north massapequa and went through the farmingdale schools. Once I started looking and visiting the town I really liked it and have no regrets. It is considered town of oyster bay which has an amazing beach (tobay), with a water park and restaurants. I can go on but it really is a great town

I live in South Farmingdale and love it. My neighbors are all incredibly nice and the town offers tons of academic/athletic/summer recreation programs. The library is fantastic! DD isn't old enough to be in school yet, but we are zoned to Woodward Parkway Elementary and have heard great things about it.

Yes, we are back. After 3 years in the Bay Area it was time to come home (the plan was always to come back east). Luckily the company I work for has a site on LI and after trying for a few months I finally got a new role here. We closed on our house in June and are enjoying the neighborhood.
