Parents of ADHD children
My son is 5.5 and on Adderall ..wss told ins would no tcover many others because of his age. We are seeing a neurologist and just started with a child psychologist. Due to my son's aggressive and strong defiant behavior I was advised instead of seeing a neuro to see a child psychiatrist. Right now we are on medicaid wihich does not any child psychiatrists. Once we land regular heath ins does it get better ... is there a fair share of child psychiatrists in the Western Nassau area? I am getting said because of our situation which we are working on but feeling my son needs better care that we can't provide right now. Do other health ins . plans have a fair amount of child psychologists that are covered? Even when we get back on our feet we couldn't pay out of pocket for a one.

Yes usually child psychologists are covered under insurance. Who told you no to see a Neurologist. I think that was wrong advice. Lots of times you may need to see a variety of doctors to help. I would definitely make an appointment with a neuro.
As far as medicine, insurance never wants to pay. It is almost always a fight. We just started DD on Quillivant which is a newish drug and everyone was denying it because it was new, the dosage and her age. I fought with the insurance company and had to have the doctor call them and insist this is the medicine she needs. You need to just keep fighting the insurance.

Interesting. My daughter takes quillivant as well. My DR just calls the insurance and says it is necessary and it gets covered no issue. Your DR has to say why it is necessary over a lower cost alternative.
To karenk122 do you have the script card from quillivant? We only pay $20 rather than our level three co pay. I believe if your co pay is $200 or less for the drug you only pay $20 if it is more you pay the $20 plus the difference past the $200.

Hi. actually I think we hit our deductible with our insurance and we don't pay anything. I already signed up for the card though. It's a great deal!.
Are you having a hard time finding quillivant. No one around my will stock it and I'm always waiting for refills. How is your daughter doing on it? I really don't think it is doing a single thing but the doctor doesn't believe me so we are giving it another month lol.

She is doing well. CVS has it. We had a hard time in the beginning, they ordered it, so I got it a week before I needed it. But lately they have it or find it nearby.

My guy is on qullivant and it is covered. It was when he was 5 but, I wasn't able to use the coupon they gave me until he was 6.
I would be seeing a nuero. My guy sees a behavioral therapist and a nuero. And everything has been covered. I am not up on Medicaid but, I am certain that it will be covered under regular insurance.
