Anyone take a civil service position from a corporate position?
Do you regret your decision to leave corporate?
How did you adjust to the paycut if you had one?
Have you been at the same position or do opportunities open up to advance or move on to other positions?

In October, I went from working for a major corporation (about as big as they get) for 9 years, to working for the State. I took a small pay cut (about 10%) but have ZERO regrets about the change. I absolutely hated my prior job - woke up every morning dreading going to work and hated being there every day. It was no way to live. Now, I wouldn't say that I love my job, but I like it and do not dread facing work each day. The hours are much better and so are the benefits (I get an incredible amount of vacation and sick days, even though I have only been here for less than a year). It is much more laid back - not that I minded a fast paced, high pressure environment - that wasn't why I hated my last job - but it's a nice change of pace.
As far as advancement goes - that wasn't something that was really available in my position in the corporate world and not sure if it's available here (I am in a brand new position that did not exist before), but I am happy with this position and since it was a brand new position, I have some freedom to "design it" and grow it the way I want.
Feel free to FM me if you have any specific questions
