Re: spinoff to my own bumper post.. RE: safety

Everyone has their own opinion, but I won't use them. I used them in 2008 with my first, and ended up taking them out when he started moving around and I found him way too close to it, I ended up putting them back in bc he was getting his legs stuck in the slats, and had to take them out a couple weeks later when he decided to use them to climb up the crib lol.

With my second, they had come out with breathable bumpers, which I tried and thought were pretty useless. So I used only sheets with #3 and will do the same with #4.

I never used it. For dd1 we even had custom bedding including a bumper and never used it. When she was little I was afraid of sids and when she was older I was afraid she would use it to boost herself over the crib to climb out.

They're not recommended

The American academy of pediatrics recommends avoiding all soft bedding--bumpers, pillows and loose blankets for newborns and infants. They are linked to SIDS. Dd is 17 months old and I still only have a sheet in her crib. I swaddled her until she could break free from the swaddle blanket then switched to a sleep sack.

Nope. Never used and never will. Not worth it to me. Never regretted not having them. A lot of bedding sets won't even come with them anymore.

No way not using them. Even if it's a small risk, why take it. I don't understand why someone would.

This. Like why risk it?. They serve no purpose.
No baby ever died from bumping into a crib slat.

People won't take a sip of wine while pregnant or eat cold cuts...but then the baby is born and bumpers are ok?

The only issue when they're older is when they step on it as a way to climb out!

Same here. I actually didn't even get DS a bedding set - just a sheet since everything in the bedding set was pretty much useless.

I used them for my first before I knew better. I didn't uae any bumpers for my twins and honestly, I didn't miss them at all. They really are unnecessary anyway...

This is going to be one of those "to each their own" types of topics. Personally, I won't use them. For me, they serve no purpose other than decorating a crib and I'd rather not take the risk that comes along with them.

spinoff to my own bumper post.. RE: safety

my sister registered for one, but decided to wait until her baby is a little older to use it. She still really wanted something there, more for the look of it lol, and her nursery bedding collection had a matching breathable bumper. So, she bought that and is using it for the few few months, and then switching over

ETA: a breathable bumper is recommended because it prevents the baby from getting limbs stuck in between the railings of the crib. They're not the "prettiest" looking, but it might but worth looking into

With my first I returned the bumper set and got breathable ones because her feet kept geeting stuck in the crib bars. This baby I am doing the same.

I ended up used the breathable bumpers bc DD would get her legs stuck in the crib slats moving around and wake up crying.

I didnt use them with my DS and will not with this baby
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against them
Babies can die from them.. not worth risk IMO

I put then in the crib to look cute until we actually used the crib. Then they went into the closet and have forever stayed. I wouldn't risk it and don't even understand what their supposed purpose is. It's not like the baby is going to be running full speed into the crib rails.

We didn't use them at all ever. We just started putting one light receiving blanket in each crib at 13 months.
