Trattoria L'incontro and Maiella
I love Trattoria L'incontro in Atoria, and just found out they recently opened Maiella in Long Island City
Has anyone every been there? Looking for any reviews. Planning a birthday dinner next month and not sure if I want to try something new by going to Maiella or stick with a favorite (Trattoria)

Love L'incontro! Haven't been to Maiella yet but I am dying to try it. I told DH that is where we are going next date night! That said, I have a few friends who went and said it was great, pretty view. It was just completely packed. I would definitely try it, just make a reservation. If you go, please post and let us know how it was! Have fun!

We like L'incontro and live in LIC, so we tried Maiella a while ago-- to be completely honest- we were not impressed.
It gets very crowded- we made reservations way in advance and got shoved in a corner. The portions were pretty tiny and expensive. The food was good, not amazing, but good. The staff was not very nice either. not really rude, but not accomodating or welcoming.
Also, we looked at the wine menu and I love Montepulciano, which Rocco (the chef/owner) loves and the maitreD came over to talk to us about the wine list and we were talking and he reccomended my favorite Montepulciano - which I buy for less than $10 a bottle- it's nothing fancy, but good. They had it listed for $65 a bottle. I am fully aware of the mark-up on wine- but that's absurd. Once I decided on a different wine, we were treated very differently. We also waited 15 minutes for dessert to be served- we ordered a cannoli- it didn't need to be prepared.

sounds like the prices go hand in hand with the real estate in LIC lol!
l'incontros prices have increased drastically over the years..but their food is consistently great.

DH and I ended up going for my birthday and it was great!
It was a saturday night and it was packed, but we had reservations so we didnt have to wait. It is a tight space and they do cram a lot of people in there but it is beautiful; great view of the skyline and a nice decor. I thought the food portions were large; definitely in line with L'Incontro. They have a few of the same menu items, but many different ones and it was all delicious! The maitre'd came over and recognized us from L'incontro (which is a shock bc we only go there twice a year) and he was so nice and friendly. he suggested wines for us...a white for me and a red for dh. Mine was very well priced, but DHs was a bit expensive. I would highly recommend them as long as you make a reservation
