Pre-bloodwork

My doctor had me go for blood work last week for genetic testing. Just got the results saying everything was negative. I didn't think I was nervous about the results until I say their name on the caller ID. Did anyone else do this?

I had genetic testing because both DH and I are Ashkenazi Jews and there are a number of genetic disorders that we could carry. Thankfully I found out that I wasn't a carrier for any of them so DH didn't have to get tested. I wasn't as nervous because I know that both my parents had to be tested for the same thing before they got married in the early 1970s but still was a bit nerve wrecking until I got confirmation.

I did genetic testing and I have some weird gene that causes SIDS but my husband was tested and he doesn't have it so we are ok.

i have been thinking about doing this as both myself and DH have some family histories that worry me a bit. was it your PCP or ob/gyn that referred you for it? and did you have to go see a genetic counselor?
my only concern is not sure if my insurance will cover it ..

thanks!

I did it. I was a carrier of one thing so they had DH get it. My RE office ended up doing it through a different lab that doesn't even test for that! Chat Icon ridiculous! So that was a waste. We actually just discovered this today. Yet another thing to discuss with RE. I'm so annoyed.

My ob/gyn sent me and I just went to a regular lab that took my insurance. The worst part was figuring out who would take it but LabCorp took mine and covered the whole thing. I didn't have to see a genetic counselor she said only if something came back positive but I didn't need to see them to take the test.
