first sono

yesterday was my first sono.

I had IUI on 8/26

doc said All looks good. No heartbeat yet but doctor said all looks good. Measuring 6w1d. ( I was basing my time of 6w5d on IUI date) He said that is normal since u know when you had iui but don't know when implantation occurs. Saw yolk sac, sac and fetal pole. Fetal pole is measuring 3.9mm. Back next Friday for another ultrasound

did anyone have any similar experience?

Not sure I follow the 6w1d vs 5d since you don't date your pregnancy from the date of implanting. Regardless, seeing the yolk sac and fetal pole is a good sign. You should have a hb by your next appt. Congrats!

Re: first sono

yes he did also say that measurements this early on can differ and be "off" by a few days". he was reassuring that seeing a yolk sac and fetal pole was a good sign. I was hoping to hear heartbeat but knew it might be too early

Re: first sono

Unfortunately with IUI, it's hard to determine exact implantation time so you could be off. They should have at least seen a flicker but these sono machines all vary! My first sono, they did not see the baby at all! Talk about heart attack. I went back two days later and the baby was there, sac and all. I don't think we saw the heart beat until the 6 week range and it was hard to measure at that point. Try not to worry and take it one appointment at a time! Hoping the next appt will give you more info and congrats!

Re: first sono

Thanks for the response.

I'm not overly concerned since doctor didn't seem concerned. I know its great to see fetal pole, sac and yolk sac and such an early gestational age.

I know going through IUI and being monitored so much earlier then others makes us wonder about everything

Even with IVF you can't 100% determine when implantation occurred. I did IVF and was measuring a day behind for the first few weeks. I would be a lot less concerned about not seeing a heartbeat at 6w1d since that's when the heart just starts beating so the chances of catching it are slim...if you were indeed measuring 6w5d with no heart beat then I would be a little concerned.
