Bathtub recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good tub? We are about to start bath reno and now I am reading our tub we plan on purchasing, the white is kind of an off white. The contractor recommended this tub. It also has those nonskid things in the tub that people complain cant keep clean. I have them now and also cannot keep them clean.

We bought a Kohler brand tub. It's white and I really like it. I believe it's called Bellwether.

We got two cast iron Kohler tubs. I like them and the clean very easily.

Re: Bathtub recommendations

Thanks so much for these responses.

We were recommended by contractor to get an American Standard tub made with Americast, but the white seems very off white to me. The tub I have now is white but not crisp white either. I always hated that. Since I am using light colors, I am concerned. I almost feel it is the manufacturer. Funny that Kohler was mentioned in this thread, as I just came back from Home Depot and Kohler seems more like the crisp white I am looking for. Who thought so much would go into all this. Chat Icon

Those that did cast iron, were these on the first or second floor of home? I am worried about putting it on the second floor.

All contractors will recommend AmeriCast because they are not cast iron. It's a lighter material that's easier for them to carry and if it chips, you are screwed basically. I wish I could remember what my salesman said at Blackman, but when he told me the pros and cons, I made the switch to cast iron. Not to mention the fact that I liked the Kohler tubs designs better than American Standard AmeriCast tubs.

With a cast iron tub, it can chip and will still be fine and white. If the AmeriCast chips, it's like a black spot or something like that.

My tub is on the first floor, but you shouldn't have any problems putting a tub on the second floor. All the tubs in the old days were all Cast Iron, and they are on plenty of second floors. I wouldn't worry at all.

I have a pic of ours in my bathroom album. We went with an American Standard, oval but "skirted in rectangle." It was very affordable, easy to clean and very spacious without taking up a lot of floor space. We LOVE it :)
