Any child restrictions yet at hospitals?
Anyone know if hospitals are starting the no kid visitor rules yet for flu season? My friend just had her baby at North Shore and I don't have a sitter for my 9 month old.

I'm not sure about hospital rules, but I know a lot of new moms don't want babies or children around their newborn. Children carry germs, regardless of how healthy they are at the time, and newborns are vulnerable. I'd check with the hospital and the mom or just wait until you do have a babysitter.

Any child restrictions yet at hospitals?
I would just call the hospital maternity ward and ask directly. Although I would probably just skip it if I couldn't get a sitter and see my friend when they got home. It's only a couple days later.

Any child restrictions yet at hospitals?
I just gave birth at North Shore. My son and nephews came to the hospital and there were no issues. I was not told of any restrictions.
I would not bring a baby to the hospital even if the mother said it was ok especially if he is in day care. I know I would feel horrible if I was the one to potentially get the baby sick. It is not like a 9 month old can tell you that he does not feel good.

Thanks I'm heading over there without DD. Didn't want to take any chances of her getting sick either. She's not in daycare and healthy luckily but not going to bother with the hassel.

I hope there are! I don't want any kids visiting. I know I sound like an A-hole but I'm not taking any risks before 2 month shots.

Most hospitals put child restrictions for visitors, especially around cold and flu season. They do allow family though. My DS was allowed to hang in the room with us in LIJ but then again we have private rooms there. Def tell your visitors ahead of time your wishes!

Stony Brook only allows siblings in the maternity ward.

I guess they changed their policy. I haven't been there in over a year, but my nieces/nephews/friend's kids weren't allowed up, and it wasn't flu season. That was their policy going back to 2009 when my first was born.

I guess so! They didn't stop my nephew at all. He was 7 when DD1 was born and 8 when DD2 was born (5 weeks ago). I was surprised.
