I need a new doctor (LIJ affiliated)

Hi ladies,

My work insurance will be changing in a few weeks and unfortunately my current doctor is not affiliated to the new insurance. I love everything about my current doctor including the hours and the wait is not bad at all.
The new insurance is only an LIJ affiliated insurance, i need some recommendations. I need a doctor that will deliver at LIJ Katz, someone with extended longer hours and hopefully where the wait isn't too bad. I hope I'm not asking for too much.

Give me some suggestions please.

I had a very positive experience with Women for Women OBGYN. They are on Lakeville Road right next to LIJ. I rotated between all the doctors throughout my pregnancy (they don't force you to do it, but it is frowned up for you to book all your appointments with the same doctor -- they might give you a bit of a hard time). My primary is Dr. Nicole Bell and I really like her a lot. My other favorites are Dr. Sanders and Dr. Smizer. Dr. Ostroff and Dr. Duncan were okay -- our personalities didn't really click but they were both more than knowledgeable. I ended up being delivered by Dr. Carmen Rodriguez who is one of their covering weekend doctors and she was OUTSTANDING. She has her own private practice in Manhasset. I believe I once heard from someone that all the doctors at Women for Women use Dr. Rodriguez as their own doctor.

I agree with Women 4 Women OBGYN. I used to go there before my company stopped offering insurance. I believe they also accept any insurance as long as it is from an employer (they used to, you would have to call and see if the policy is still the same).

I highly recommend Women for Women. I loved all of the doctors and Dr. Smizer coached me through a VBAC that I decided on at the last minute. I only ever had a long wait once, when there was an emergency ahead of me. That being said, when I had bleeding, I really appreciated that they got me in to be seen by a dr right away, with absolutely no wait time.

I go to Dr Bashian in Bellmore on Merrick road. she is sooo nice I liked her instantly. I waited about 45 mins but I was speaking to some of the other pregnant women in the office that said she is worth the wait and if you go in the morning there isn't really a wait just in the afternoon.

I've heard that Dr. Bashian is fantastic but personally know of 3 people who left the practice due to the excessive wait times for appointments. Like previous poster said, maybe if you do morning appointments its not an issue, but if you work and have to do late afternoons/evenings, it could be bad. My friends consistently described wait times upwards of an hour.

Women's Health and Wellness. They have an office on union turnpike across from the LA Fitness right by LIJ and one in Woodbury. I see Dr. Cohen. He is absolutely wonderful.

I disagree with cynn81 about Dr Cohen. Just know he is the only one in that office that is an OB and he has an annoying NP.

Sorry but i think your wrong, there is also Dr. Evan Shapiro in that office that is an OB not just Dr. Cohen. Like luvmotherhood, I too have seen the NP and think she is great.

well, to my knowledge cohen is the only OB in the office.

My recent exp with the two of them was very unprofessional

yeah, I went to this office as well... there are pros & cons... not sure if I'd see him again for any future pregnancies... a little too laid back for my taste & not cautious enough... he missed something he totally should have caught, because he was in such a rush & didn't check. They almost did the nt blood work twice, at two different appointments, until I pointed out that I already had that test & the results had been returned. I feel like with them they're not on top of things. He didn't go over results with me unless I specifically asked. I was told they submitted my info for pre-reg to my insurance, the office staff assured me it was done & not to worry.. well, when I called insurance, it had not been done... good thing I went on my hunch. This is just off the top of my head.
Btw, Shapiro is an ob but no longer delivers, so he'll only see you for the first 12 weeks, then you have to see Cohen. I wasn't a huge fan of the NP, but only saw her once, so first impression could be wrong.

I love Dr. Bashian. Yes sometimes there's a wait, but I have always waited at my OB appointments with previous doctors. I was there just last week and was done within an hour and 10 minutes, including blood and flu shot.
