Trying for #2

Did anyone have a hard time committing to trying for #2?

I am definitely on the fence about having another child. Some days I really want another one and then other days I feel content with having just one. I think if I could have children naturally, I would just wing it a few months and if it happened, it happened.

I also hate putting our lives on hold. If we do it this summer (or next summer) that means an entire month will be filled with appointments and I feel like my DS will not get to enjoy the summer. I also know that if we wait, we are just getting older so that will not help matters.

Sorry for the vent, but I needed to get these thoughts out.

been there done that.
i've wanted # 2 for years now. But the timing..I was out of work, we were strapped financially. Dh's insurance would not have covered anything until we hit a 6K out of pocket max.

I went back to work in 2014 with awesome health benefits and full 12 week paid maternity policy. so late last year we started trying.

Dh was always of the mindset "if we had another great, if we dont thats fine too."

I did 3 iui's with my OB that failed. I moved on to an RE and did a cycle of IVF. Hopefully it works. Im 36 going on 37 so I feel like time isnt on my side much these days.

and DS will be 6. a larger age gap then I would have liked, but what can u do? We make plans and god laughs right?

Re: Trying for #2

I will be 34 this year so I feel like this is the last summer before my eggs are deemed old (by science not me). If we don't try this summer, next summer would be the latest I would try. I know if we do try, I only have one more round of IVF left in me.

Re: Trying for #2

for me...i knew I had to give it my all and know that in the end, I did all I could.

if you can only do one IVF, then you know you've done all you could handle. and thats OK!

I will say this...if you have any doubts about #2, don't do it (yet). 34 is not old. You still have at least a few years left to decide!

We had #2 a few months ago, and 2 kids is much more work than 1. You're already in your groove with the first, and then have to revisit the newborn time, but also have a toddler at home. It's exhausting (but wonderful!). I will say this, though. It took us a year to get pg with our first. It took a month to get pregnant with our second since the RE already knew what worked. It was definitely less of a time commitment to get pg the second time for us, at least.

Haha - I know 34 isn't old, but you know what I mean from a fertility stand point.

I know a second child is a lot more work. My sister has two DDs that are 18 months apart and I honestly would not have been able to handle that. DS is 17 months now and I can not imagine having a newborn!

I know I physically only want to do one more round of IVF. It is so stressing on the body and it will be my fourth time undergoing the procedure. At this point, if we do IVF again, I think we will wait until the summer of 2017.

When I was trying for #2 I went back to the RE. It was very stressful for me trying to coordinate the appointments and getting DS to his babysitter. I actually stopped going to the RE after my 4th failed IUI and I somehow got pregnant on my own the following month... otherwise I think that would have been it for me.

This is similar to me. We did do a fresh and frozen cycle in 2013. I was 34 DD was 5. I ended up getting pregnant and m/c both times.

We winged it since and nada then we decided to get serious this year and did another IVF. Thankfully I got pregnant and it stuck Chat Icon DD will be 8 when this baby is bornChat Icon A much bigger age gap then I wanted but you know what they say you make plans and God laughs.

I'm also 36 going on 37..so age was another factor for me.

Honestly it was a little more challenging navigating the doctors appointment but you do it. I did do my cycle in the summer which made it easier somewhat since DD wasn't in school. If you don't feel ready now I would wait until the summer. You're 34 not old..I don't see the rush. Good luck Chat Icon
