1 Hour GTT - Early??
I'm 9w1d. I went for my labwork this morning, and they did a 1 hour GTT on me!! Isn't this insanely early? I feel like my OB office accidentally checked this off... but there was nothing the lab could do. So I did the test. Anyone else have it this early? I can't figure out why. I have no history/FM of GD or DM, I'm not overweight... I'm considered "high risk" I guess b/c of my age (I'm 37) but other than that, I have no idea why they did this test so damn early.

I've never heard of it being done that early. Did your bloodwork come back abnormal or something? I'm 13 weeks and OB said not until the third trimester.

No! This was the FIRST blood work I had!! I think I am the victim of a careless employee filling out my form!

I don't even think I told my doctor that my father is diabetic, I don't think it was a question on my intake questionnaire and I didn't think about it. I guess this is something I should let my doctor know as well!

This might depend on the OB. Both my parents are diabetic and my mom had GD with me and they said no reason to test early. I passed the 1 hour when I took it at 24 weeks.

They asked for an entire family history at my first appointment. I was also a new patient to the practice at my first prenatal appointment.

I was a new patient at my first prenatal appointment too but wasn't asked family history on intake so I'll make a note to mention it next time. Thanks for a good reminder!

I had it done that early because my dad is diabetic.
For my son, I had it done twice because my dad is diabetic. I passed both times.
I used a different OB for my daughter and they only tested me once. Passed that time, too.

1 Hour GTT - Early??
I had GD with DD and my OB only wants to test me a few weeks earlier. From what I know and have read, GD is caused by hormones from the placenta blocking insulin and since the placenta isn't even fully formed and utilized until 12 weeks, I would think GD can't be detected that early. Sounds like a mistake to be...but I"m certainly not an OB

1 Hour GTT - Early??
The practice I used makes all patients take the one hour gtt twice. I took it once in the first trimester and then again in the third trimester. My doctor explained that they have many patients that test positive for gestational diabetes early in pregnancy and it has become the standard in the practice.

1 Hour GTT - Early??
I never had the one hour GTT but with DD my GD was found at about 10 weeks because my PCP ran blood work on me. By that time it was so bad I needed insulin right away.
This pregnancy the doctor wanted me to start testing my sugar at 11 weeks. I'm 14 weeks right now and my fasting levels are elevated although not as high as they were with my DD.
