Ovulation pains

I am not TTC yet, but I know you ladies know a lot about ovulation, so I am posing this question to you. I came off the pill over a month ago. I had my first period off BC last week.
I am feeling pressure/pain/cramping in my lower left back that also spreads to my side and my lower left abdomen. Do you think this could be ovulation pain? It seems it would be too early, but I am not sure what else it could be? The only other think I could think of in that area is my kidney.

I don't know. But I had the same pain (in the lower left "abdomen" area) on Monday and I was supposed to be O since I had EWCM.

I'm curious to see the responses.

I've been getting brief, sharp pains in my lower left side and I know I'm ovulating this week. I think you should trust your instincts.

Ovulation pain


Ovulation is a phase of the female menstrual cycle, which involves the release of an egg (ovum) from one of the ovaries. For most women, ovulation occurs about once every month until menopause, apart from episodes of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

About one in five women experience pain and discomfort during ovulation. The duration of the pain varies from one woman to the next, but ranges from a few minutes to 48 hours. In most cases, ovulation pain doesn’t mean that anything is wrong. However, severe pain may sometimes be symptomatic of gynaecological conditions including endometriosis. See your doctor if your ovulation pain lasts longer than three days or is associated with other unusual menstrual symptoms, such as heavy bleeding. Ovulation pain is also known as mid-cycle pain and mittelschmerz (German for ‘middle pain’).

Symptoms
The symptoms of ovulation pain can include:

Pain in the lower abdomen, just inside the hip bone.
The pain typically occurs about two weeks before the menstrual period is due.
The pain is felt on the right or left side, depending on which ovary is releasing an egg.
The pain may switch from one side to the other from one cycle to the next, or remain on one side for a few cycles.
The pain sensation varies between individuals - for example, it could feel like uncomfortable pressure, twinges, sharp pains or cramps.
The duration of pain ranges anywhere from minutes to 48 hours.

well, I am currently waiting for mine and I'm also waiting for some sort of a surge in temp or a positive on the opk. i don't think i normally feel pain with ovulating, but I'm so "tuned" into my body lately that maybe this month I will...

And Monday morning I had EWCM and Tuesday morning...then none. So that's exactly what it was. I ovulated & I noticed! Never thought I would be that excited...

And Monday morning I had EWCM and Tuesday morning...then none. So that's exactly what it was. I ovulated & I noticed! Never thought I would be that excited...

question...do you get EWCM just RIGHT before ovulation or does it last for a few days? i have had none yet this month, but am supposed to ovulate soon.

Cervical Mucus and Ovulation
Q: How long before ovulation does the cervical mucus become stretchy?

A: Spinnbarkeit, the ability of the mucus to stretch like egg white (EW or EWCM = Egg-White Cervical Mucus) usually starts several days before ovulation and ends within one to two days after ovulation (see graph here). However, many women report it happens longer, or shorter, before ovulation, and some women have no egg-white fluid at all despite good and regular ovulation.

Why check cervical mucus? Because your basal body temperature (BBT) usually indicates ovulation only after it has happened, checking the cervix or the cervical mucus can help predict impending ovulation. The cervical mucus changes several days before ovulation by becoming more abundant and stretchy (often called egg white cervical mucus or EWCM). Within one to two days after ovulation, these typical changes disappear.

Using an ovulation predictor kit (OPK) can also help you predict when you are about to ovulate. The OPK is a test that checks your urine for the presence of luteinizing hormone (LH). Normally, LH is in a steady state, at a low level (negative test). But when it rises very quickly (LH surge) it stimulates the developing egg (follicle) and ovulation (release of the egg) follows shortly thereafter. Ovulation usually happens within 12-36 hours after the OPK first turns positive.
