Is anyone familiar with this and knows of any resources? DS fits the criteria and I'm looking to get a better understanding of it. Thanks!

I honestly never heard of it but I just read up on it and also fits my DD almost exactly. In K she was already reading at an M level and was doing 4th grade words for spelling. She has almost a photographic memory which helps her with spelling and decoding. She is a "words" girl and loves anything to do with spelling, decoding, writing, reading.
Regardless of what she was reading or spelling though, her comprehension of those items were well below what she was doing. What I did was to question the teachers on what she actually knows and not to focus so much on how far ahead she could get. I made them test her comprehension and she was moved all the way back to "G" level. In spelling, instead of making her move so much ahead, I had them start to work on definitions and sentence writing with the words that were in the classroom so she was confident on all the meanings.
So now in 3rd grade she is reading on Grade Level but gets resource room to still help with comprehension. Spelling she is still above grade level but there are also other children in her class at the same level so they are grouped together and still work on definitions and sentences.
I'm not sure I answered any of your questions but it would fall into the area of Speech (for decoding) and Resource Room for the comprehension, so you can ask those areas at school for help.

Thanks so much. He's only in pre-k but this information will be helpful once he reaches grade school because I feel he is going to have a very similar outcome to your DD.
