Need help with dog issues-

This dog has destroyed 3 area rugs. I'm at a loss and don't know what to do with her anymore. She is in a crate but can move it with a lot of effort. I don't know how to deal with her when she does these kinds of things. I did not want to put her in a traditional crate God for if there is a fire or a break in. Do I have no choice ? I'm so upset right now.

She knows she did something wrong because I opened her crate to let her out and she is staying in there

Is she getting enough exercise, how old? Buy her a marrow filled bone. Red barn is a good one. It will focus her attention and help distract her. Also, if she is crated all day she's probably bored. It's not really fair to them.

Re: Need help with dog issues-

How often is she crated? Is it only when she is left alone in the house, or does she sleep in the crate at night when everyone else is home?
What do you mean by "in a crate" vs "traditional crate"?

Yea. Need more info to be able to understand.

What kind of dog is she?
What size crate is she in?
How long is she in crate every day?
Do you leave the TV or radio on so she doesn't feel lonely ?
Did you do any sort of training with her?
Does she get adequate exercise for her breed and size?

Beagle mix (25 lbs) and She eats the area rugs. She is a year old and this puppy pen doesn't have a bottom, she can move it when she really wants to. She sleeps in her crate at night. during the day DH WAH / I am home. The only time she is in during the day is if we are both out (very rare during the week). Today I left tv on and was gone at most 30 minutes.

My dog did that when we first got her.

She had separation anxiety. You have to get her a crate with a bottom. Also it is a good idea to work on her confidence. We had to do a pretty long process to break her anxiety, I would recommend consulting with a trainer.

I always push everyone for a traditional crate. My dogs could jump or knock over any gates or barriers we put up. But my pit, the more destructive of the two, actually loved her crate. She's older now and doesn't need it, but she was always crated when we were out for the day and she'd occasionally sleep in there even with the door open when we were home.

Also, more exercise. A tired dog is a good dog. Lastly, a good treat/toy for the pup to gnaw on. I've heard beagles are notoriously mouthy and love to chew!

Re: Need help with dog issues-

Ok.

Try an actual crate. When they have room to move around, they tend to be more destructive. If you actually see her going after the rug, reprimand immediately. You need to catch her in the act in order to help correct the bad behavior. You can even try using bitter Apple spray on edges of rug to turn her away from it.

When she is out of the crate, she is watched by someone. If you cannot see her, she's in the crate.
You only do this until the bad behavior gets better.

Also, she needs to be exercised. Dogs chew out of boredom. She's looking for attention. Even negative attention is attention to them.

Good dogs take a lot of work In the beginning on your part. They don't just happen. But it's worth it in the end. Bc you'll have a fanatic new member of the family.
