Independent educational evaluation for kindgergarten placement/services
Looking to have an independent educational evaluation done before my son's CSE meeting in a couple of months. At this meeting it will be decided what his kindergarten placement will be and what services he will receive. I want to get a second opinion before going in as to what type of class and what services will benefit him the most. Who should do this evaluation - neuropsychologist or psychologist or psychiatrist? And can you recommend someone?

Is he at a center based pre-school? DS's school has a social worker assigned to each class and they provide recommendations for everything from extra activities to respite care.
Based asking the social worker for recommendations, I would find out what the school district is looking for in terms of behavior and academic knowledge for mainstreaming and if mainstreaming will not be considered, what does the district offer (self contained classes, specialized school, etc)

Also as part of the CPSE process, he will be getting evaluated at the school he is at now. Educational testing will be done and any related service providers will test in their domain. You could ask the school psychologist and they would probably do the cognitive testing, too. Usually this is sufficient to decide services for Kindergarten if you don't want to go outside. Also, a doctor's note of diagnosis and educational needs is very helpful to have going into these meetings, so if he has delays, its good to have a doctor note that so a visit to a neurologistor other appropriate medical professional for his needs if you haven't done so already is good.
