And so it begins.....
I really was hoping I wouldn't have overbearing in laws BUT they came over the other day for the first time since my announcement and had a lot to say about my pets. They explained how they didn't feel comfortable with the idea of them around the babies things and how they decided to get rid of their family pet when DH was born. I grew up surrounded by pets so it's completely norm to me and I have cats and a little dog, nothing that others would consider "dangerous." After all their little comments they said "Oh we said we wouldn't say anything and let you guys parent the way you'd like but I guess we gave in." What else do you want to comment on that you had a discussion beforehand about this?!?!

Re: And so it begins.....
My ILs said the same thing about my dogs. I refuse to even entertain the notion of getting rid of my dogs preemptively- if something were to happen, that's a different story. After they said it several times, I told DH to squash it. I don't care what they have to say and I don't want to hear it. They haven't said anything since.

Yes them to death and do what you want. I heard the same crap too from my FIL about my two cats. Two kids later, everyone is fine and never been scratched.

I would question the integrity of any person who would "get rid" of a family pet simply because they were having a baby.
I'd have a hard time keeping my opinions to myself on that one if they had said that to me.

My pets are my babies. I don't care what anyone thinks or says. I would never allow my child to be in a situation where our pets could hurt them. I am a very responsible pet owner. I take it very seriously. If my in laws said that to me, i would get rid of them out of my life way before I would ever consider getting rid of my babies (pets)

I probably would have laughed in their faces and told them they were crazy for even suggesting it. And it would never in a million years happen.
My dog died in September and its killing me that this baby wont have any of that bond that Hailey had with Jessie. Killing me!

Re: And so it begins.....
Ugh people just don't know how to butt out. When I was pregnant with my first I had a coworker, who didn't have any kids yet at the time, ask me if I was getting rid of my cat. I said no. Then she proceeded to tell me how she heard stories about cats smothering babies in their sleep....
I couldn't stop myself. I said it's not like they'll be sharing a room and they have these new things called DOORS to keep cats out of bedrooms at night.
DS is 3 1/2 now and if anything he poses more of a danger to the cat than the cat ever did to him Just yes them to death and then do whatever you want.

I am not a fan of animals but I would never tell someone that they should get rid of there pet when they have a baby. I have a fear of dogs , but kids that grow up with animals don't.

That bullshitt about cats smothering babies in their sleep is an old wives tale from like the 1700s People don't even realize how ignorant and uneducated they sound when the spew shitt like that.
I have never heard of a cat smothering a baby in real life. Ever. And if a cat can do that, why not a dog? Dogs are generally bigger.
Ridiculous.
I would have torn that bittch a new ahole if she tried that shitt with me

Same here. I have two- a golden retriever/collie mix, and a pit/boxer mix. People think the danger lies in the pit bull, but the collie is the one you need to watch out for! The pit bull might attack you... with kisses.

1. My dog is my first baby. I would NEVER even entertain the idea of getting rid of him just because of baby.
2. Skipper is already attached to this baby and he/she isn't even here yet. He shoves his face into my crotch as soon as i walk in the door and sleeps right next to me in bed to snuggle with baby.
3. Nope. Just nope. Your animals will be your baby's first friend.
Keep the pets... lose the in laws lol

Re: And so it begins.....
We have lizards - two bearded dragons and an iguana. When I was pregnant with DD1 people used to ask us all the time what we were going to do with them when she was born. My response was always the same:
"What did you do with your kids when you had others? Did you get rid of your older ones because you had new ones coming?????"
That usually shut them up pretty quickly
