I'm not planning to breast feed and I'm going to buy the store brand formula since it's the same as name brand but much cheaper. My question is, how do I know what type? Advantage, sensitive, gentle, complete?

I'm between target and BJs. Target has many options but a little more than BJs. BJs only has complete and sensitive.

The hospital gave us Enfamil Newborn nursettes to use. Once they ran out after we went home, we just switched to the Up&Up (Target) version. They don't have newborn so we used the regular infant (yellow). So use whatever the hospital gives you and then when you switch, get that version.

Up&Up yellow is Enfamil Newborn
Up&Up purple is Enfamil Gentelease

The others are similac.

The hospital will give you a particular brand & if your baby does well with it I would just stick to that. They will give you some to take home. We ended up having to switch to a sensitive brand bc she had gas troubles & I had many frievds that had to do the same so I wouldn't buy a lot in advance until you're sure it's the right one for your baby

I wouldn't buy much ahead of time. The hospital will give you nursettes. Sometimes OBs and pediatricians will also give samples. With both of my kids we had to try several formulas before we found one that agreed with them, so again, don't stock up. DS was on Nutramigen. DD was on Gentlease for 5 months and then we transitioned her to Infant Enfamil.

Don't buy a lot ahead of time because you want to make sure your baby is okay with it. Most hospitals have similac or Enfamil. You just tell them which you want.

I wouldn't buy any in advance. The hospital will give you some to take home..I would go from there.
Within a few days of coming home we needed to switch DDs formula.

Re: Formula

I agree not to buy a lot. My dd was on 4 different formulas in 6 weeks.

I'm using Sensitive and she does great on it. Way less gassy than when she was on Enfamil Infant but she does sometimes strain and cry to poo. I'm trying to figure it out, if it's the formula or if she would be having that problem regardless.

How did she do on Gentlease?

We went straight to the target brand enfamil gentilease for our first 2 and plan the same for the next. We found that they were less gassy with target brand vs enfamil i think because it dissolved easier with less need for mixing(which makes bubbles and gas).

She did fine on the Gentlease. I see your baby is having problems pooping. My DD did, too. The formula changes never made a difference (Nutramigen has probiotics which helped DS but didn't make any difference with DD). She eventually just grew out of it.
