Smoking weed during pregnancy
I am in a pregnancy group on facebook. There was just a drama filled post that got pulled over smoking weed during pregnancy.
Long story short a girl was asking for a "friend" if her & the baby tested positive for THC after birth if the baby would be taken away. They were from Georgia and the girl was around 38 weeks pregnant.
I am against smoking weed during pregnancy, as were some others, but there were A LOT who were for it because: it helps with nausea, it helps to calm the mother, they did it and their babies are so calm after birth from it, etc, etc, etc....
Maybe I live under a rock, but I thought smoking anything can be harmful to an unborn baby, and felt her smoking habit at 38 weeks was selfish and nausea was an excuse.
Thoughts?

As someone who is pro-legalization and happy to partake, I think it's selfish and stupid to take a risk like that with the life of your unborn child. It's one thing to risk your own health- it's another entirely to risk an innocent baby's health. I would NEVER in a million years smoke anything while pregnant. I was sick as a dog in the beginning of my pregnancy but the thought of smoking never even crossed my mind.

I have the Glow App and sometimes I peruse the message boards---women post about this too and so many say it's totally fine and "natural." I can't even read those posts anymore without getting riled up. A few women always chime in saying "Yo I smoked wen I was preggers and my kidz are fine."
I can't.

There are women that say their doctor said it's good for morning sickness when nothing else helps. I've seen some women say they'd rather smoke weed than take a medication to help MS. What kind of doctor would recommend that? They have to be lying, right????

I'm a drug and alcohol counselor so this doesn't shock me at all. I've heard so many things on the matter and other drugs.

They probably don't even go to the doctor.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You need a license to drive, a license to get married, you should need a license to have a kid.

No doctor would recommend that...for the sheer reason of liability. Could you imagine the malpractice suits if something were wrong with a baby and the mother claimed that the doctor told her to smoke pot to ease morning sickness?

Nope. Smoking ANYTHING is not safe during pregnancy. This just baffles me. Not that it happens, but that people so easily admit to it & encourage it to others. SMH.

I see this argument A LOT on message boards and FB. As someone who has never and will never touch the stuff, it completely angers me. I will fully admit I persoanlly think legalization is absurd...BUT it's also NONE of my business what people do to themselves. That's their choice and I completely stand by that. However...the moment that pregnancy begins, your body isn't your own for the next 9 months, and I DO NOT think anyone should be smoking anything during that time. Having a baby sometimes means sacrificing things. There are other ways to battle nausea and if they dont work, well guess what....women deal with it EVRYDAY without smoking weed.

Add me to the list! I have no problem with it under normal circumstances, but WHY WHY WHY would anyone take the chance when they are pregnant? It's just not worth the risk.
