How many..
IUI's did you have if you got pregnant from one? I just met with my RE to have a follow up after three failed IUIs. He wanted me to head to IVF next cycle and I felt like I only did three so far, two were natural and this past one in December I was on Clomid so I feel like I should try clomid at least once more. But he did say that IUIs are only 25 percent chance of getting pregnant. Not such a high number but I'm still hopeful. So if you had a baby/babies from an IUI please share your story with me so it gives me more hope! Thank you.

Doesn't answer your question, but would you do an IUI with injectables?

Re: How many..
I did one IUI with clomid in 09 that conceived DS. no triggers nothing. I was 30.
I did 3 more with clomid in 2015, and two of those with trigger shots. Nada.
Aetna required that if you were under 37 you had to do 6 medicated IUIs first before IVF. However, apparently my plan sponsor (Newscorp) did not require that as part of the benefit so I was able to move to IVF.
Some people do many many IUI's as they can be more affordable and sometimes they have to anyway b/c of their insurance.
If you are not ready for IVF, you can keep trying the IUI. although I think there is a limit on the # of cycles you can do with clomid.

How many..
I'd try injections before moving onto IVF for two reasons.
1. You'll produce more follicles 2. They will be better able to see how you respond to the meds used during IVF reducing your risk of hyperstimming during IVF
We never did IUI as we were using my DH's frozen sperm.

Re: How many..
First IUI was in June, 150 Clomid, no trigger, sperm count was a bit low on the first day I tested positive OPK...did another on the day after and BOOM....
31 weeks pregnant with DS#2!
My insurance covers unlimited IUIs....so I would go a few more times if I had this type of coverage.

Re: How many..
I had a successful IUI after 2 failed IVFs. But I also had surgery to treat my PCOS/poor egg quality after the 2nd failed IVF. It has a lot more to do with your diagnosis. If I were you I would try IUI with objectives before jumping to IVF, unless you are dealing with Male factors. Then I would move to IVF.

Re: How many..
My first pregnancy was from my third IUI cycle- all with injectables.
My baby was very sick which we found out at my pre anatomy scan and he unfortunately did not survive, but this was not at all related to the IUI. So like I said above, to answer your question, 3 IUIs with injectables. My doctor told me a the time that if an IUI is going to work, 80% of the time it will work in the first 3. I'm assuming injectables plays a role in that statistic.

They never even told me that was an option. What are injectables?

Yes I think the doctor said 6 cycles.

Yes my husband has low motility. So you don't think an IUI would be good for that?

First off I am very sorry to hear of your loss. But thank you for sharing your story and telling me about injectables. How does that work? How long are you on them? You see the doctor just said right from IUI to IVF and I didn't know if there was anything in between that I could still try.

Re: How many..
some people do smaller doses of IVF drugs like menopur and follistim when doing an iUI.
I did clomid for days 5-9 (50mg) and then a trigger shot of HCG on day 13 or 14 and go in for the IUI a day or 2 after. Now mind you, my OB was doing them not an RE, and he never checked my blood, follicles, no monitoring, etc. So he was guessing at the timing.
after the 3rd one sent me to the ER b/c I ruptured a large cyst, he is not my OB anymore. I got tired of his BS. and his office is next to the hospital, so its not equipped with any ultrasound equipment. I have to get slips and go to radiology. and most days they wont give you a same day appt.

How many..
When dealing with male factor IUI with injectables is not always recommended because you are probably producing more than enough follicles on clomid. We moved onto IVF for this reason

Re: How many..
Pregnancy 1 -
IUI 1 - Clomid - BFN IUI 2 - Clomid - BFN IUI 3 - Injectables - BFP
Pregnancy 2
IUI 1 - natural (waiting for insurance approval) - BFN IUI 2 - Injectables - BFP
I think it's worth a shot with injectables. Clomid never worked for me.

depending on your diagnosis and your insurance, it could make sense to go the injectable route a couple cycles first. I'd ask your RE. You use the shots for like 7-8 days typically... It's not bad.

No success here yet but I prefer the injectables over chlomid... Doesn't make me as bloated and break out...
