Bound carpet remnant?
I just did it for my sons room. I got a 10x12 off a bolt we found in the store and they bound it. We were able to bring it home and "install" it ourselves.

Re: Bound carpet remnant?
I did it for my master bedroom. Wanted something to cover most of the floor but not be wall to wall. Found a gorgeous ivory berber that was just the right size to leave a nice border of hardwood around the edges.

This sounds like something I would love to do. What exactly is bounding? Does every place offer this?

Binding is when the raw edges are finished and sewn so the carpet does not unravel. I would imagine that most carpet stores would offer this service for a fee. It does not have to be a remnant, can be anything off a carpet roll.

Re: Bound carpet remnant?
I've done this with an 8x10 for two rooms from a local carpet store for around $300. It is definitely cost effective if you're on a budget. Beware that in high traffic areas the binding can come undone after a while. Not sure if they would re-bind for you.
