Adding therapy sessions outside of school
My son currently attends a special needs pre-school where he gets Speech 3x, OT 2x, and PT 1x. We also get parent training once a month with the school psychologist, but it's during school hours so as a FTWM I never get to attend- my husband does since his work hours are variable. At DS' school, Speech is capped at 3x, and OT & PT are capped at 2x. Their reasoning for this is because they feel a student will be missing too much classroom time if they get pulled out for therapy all of the time. I met with the teacher/therapists last week and his PT said she suggests adding another session to bring him to 2x, which shouldn't be a problem, but my concern is more for OT, as DS is very weak in this area (both fine motor and sensory issues). His speech therapist said she doesn't suggest adding any more sessions beyond the 3 he is currently getting, since part of what he learns in the classroom is what they are doing in speech therapy. I have my CPSE meeting on Wednesday for his annual review. I was thinking of asking for another OT session either at home, or if possible, during the hour DS is at before care at his school. I was also looking to see if they would allow a behaviorist or some kind of home training, to help me manage DS behavior at home.
Has anyone been successful in adding therapy sessions outside of school hours, or in getting a behaviorist at home? Just was wondering the likelihood of them granting my request if I asked.

Re: Adding therapy sessions outside of school
Contact your insurance company to see what benefits he's eligible for (ABA, OT, Speech) The school district won't pay for in home services, but your insurance company will.
