We have a party on Apr 30th and our backyard is a mess. We only want to patch a certain area but I want to do it ASAP.

Re: When is the earliest we can lay sod?
You can lay your sod anytime in the Spring. I'd probably wait a few more weeks to get past these freezing nights, though. But it takes at least 2-3 weeks for sod to take root in ideal conditions, so I wouldn't want people walking over it at a party quite yet. So it may be cutting it close for an Apr 30 party. IMO, sod is expensive and I wouldn't want to risk damaging it. We laid a lot of sod last fall and most of it took, some of it didn't, so we're just throwing seeds down this Spring.

Thanks. We are just doing a really bad patch and then having all the seeding doNE by our landscaper after the party.
