What is the 12w blood test called?
The one that can also determine gender? My OB's office mentioned it to me at the last visit and said that they'll be sending me for it at 12 weeks. I'm trying to find out if my insurance is going to cover it. I'm 30 years old and I thought it wasn't covered under 35. She also said that sometimes she sees the results come back with the gender and other times it doesn't.

I think it is the MaterniT21....But not 100%.

I don't see how it wouldn't be accurate - they are testing chromosomes. If you have male chromosomes in your blood, then it'll detect that, its not like you typically do. If its a girl, there won't be any change to indicate so.
I mean no test is probably exactly 100% but I just don't see how there are errors with this one. BUT I could be wrong 
ETA: I'm exactly 35, nothing was said in terms of insurance/age (other than I had to do the test based on age) and when I went to the lab, they charged me ~$45

i would call the drs office and get the exact name of the test. There's harmony, materniT21, panorama, and a few others. All serve the same purpose, though.
My drs office does materniT21 mostly, but they did also have panorama, which they said would be easier to get covered by insurance since I am under 35. I got the test done back in January and haven't gotten a bill

The general name is NIP - non-invasive prenatal testing.

What is the 12w blood test called?
I'm going Monday for mine and the one my dr is doing is panorama. The dr office said if my insurance doesn't cover it (I'm under 30) then there's some kind of agreement with the company where you pay $200 instead of what the actual bill is for.

Just FYI, the paperwork for the test asks you if you want to know the gender. So I think you have to specifically request that you DON'T want to know the gender. Otherwise, it should come back along with all the other results.
