how do I figure out a price? UPDATE
A co-worker asked me to make the mini cheesecakes for her party. 2 x now she has mentioned it, and told me she wants to pay me. I feel odd, but she asked me 2x. and keeps stressing she wants to pay me.
Has anyone done this for someone and if yes, how did you figure out a price??
in the past people have asked if I can make my brownies, they wanted t barter, but I am not good at that so I declined, and just gave them brownies.
update: Before the start of the month I told her to give me the date and number of cheese cakes she needed. I told her I needed to know for a few reasons, one we were being forced to take some PTO days and I wanted to make sure I was going to be in.
I have been seeing this person just about everyday, including this weekend. Yesterday, Saturday at 4:30 as I am trying to leave she says, my daughters B-day is this Thursday and I need 6 cakes. I said i thought you weren't interested since you never gave me the info. Yea, I forgot. She says your not available? Its not that but I needed time to go shopping and time during my week. Part of me is thinkinh 6 cakes, Im not a bakery I cant just make 6, I still have to make the full recipe.
I told I will let her know Tuesday. Oy, it would have been a good way to make a little extra money even if its just a few extra $. But, I dont know if I'll have time to shop. I felt a tiny bit annoyed bc she waited so long at the same time feel good bc she thought they were good enough .

I didn't ask how many yet. Too afraid she will ask for a price lol
my brownies take two days to complete very time consuming.
The cheesecakes, not nearly as long but I have to find the time to shop. Do I include that in the price??
Help!!!! :)

Assuming you're not going completely out of your way to make them and you're friendly with her I probably wouldn't charge. I would maybe let her know how much the ingredients were and ask for that. Or since she's your coworker, tell her she can pick up the tab for lunch one day.

I am going out of my way since I don't have a lot of time. We are not great friends we work on opposite sides of the center, she tasted the cheesecakes at a staff party.

Are you invited to the party? If so, I'd be more likely to just do it. If not, then I absolutely think you should charge. Figure in ingredients and your time including shopping.

no, its for her daughters party. She told me her daughter loved them and wanted them for her B-day.
That's what I was thinking but finding it hard to figure out what my time is worth.
Thank you everyone.

I don't think I would "charge" a friend but I would ask for the price of the ingredients if she wanted me to make alot. So figure out how much that costs and ask for that.

Re: how do I figure out a price??? help
find out how many she wants.if its a dozen, i would just do it for her and take it as a compliment that she loved your baking. She will prob give you money or get you a small thank you gift. if she gives you nothing, then charge her if she asks again

Re: how do I figure out a price??? help
i would just charge her for all the ingredients at a minimum but plus round it up for my time. let's say the ingredients cost $42, I'd just say give me $50. otherwise I have no idea its a tough thing...

Re: how do I figure out a price??? help
I would at least charge her for the cost of ingredients and packaging. Those costs add up fast, especially when making a lot for a party. If she insists on paying for you time, maybe just double the cost of ingredients and let her pay you that extra amount this way you're covered for materials and time. Or, come up with a per cheesecake price which covers the cost of both your time and ingredients.

how do I figure out a price??? help
I have made cake pops for tons of people. I charge a flat price for X amount and then increase 10% more per 3 dozen more. I make sure I have the ingredients covered plus my time. If I have been asked to make a design like say a floral basket of cake pops I price the materials and give a cost of materials to add in addition

Re: how do I figure out a price??? help
Are you interested in making this into a business? If yes, I think $3/cake is a fair price. If not but you're willing to do it, I think I'd just ask for her to provide the ingredients or pay for them. Or you could just decline and say you don't bake for money. Would you be willing to give her the recipe instead so she can make them herself?
