Help with training puppy to go outside
We recently rescued a 10 week old puppy and we are in love! He came basically trained to go on wee wee pads but we want to break this eventually. I will say it's helpful overnight to save a trip outside but overall we want him to just go to the door to go outside to pee if he has to. Any ideas on how to get him to do this successfully? Now he goes outside sometimes but other times he will be outside for a while, come in and pee on the pad lol. Advice?

Help with training puppy to go outside
I put a few bells on a string near the door where he goes out. I started taking his nose or paw and push the bells and say "want to go out?" I did this with a 1 yr old dog. Now he does it on his own. To get him to learn to go outside I will stay out there with him and say "do your business." He eventually learned.
I never had wee wee pads for dogs. Always taught them to go outside.

Help with training puppy to go outside
Bring the puppy outside very frequently. First thing in the morning, immediately after eating and after playing, just before bed time and lots of times in between. Every time he does his business give him a LOT of praise and a small little treat. Use a trigger phrase too, when you are bringing him out - like " want to go outside" or "let's go potty outside" (lol) - whatever your comfortable with

Re: Help with training puppy to go outside
We just gradually moved the pad closer and closer to the door and eventually put it outside and he knew to ask to go
