ALL DAY Sickness
UGH! With DS I had hyperemesis and was in and out of the hospital for 20 weeks (got a Zofran pump at 9 weeks). When I turned 6 weeks and 1 day this time around and I've been SO sick! It's different this time but I seriously feel TERRIBLE! I have my dr appointment tomorrow and cannot wait to speak to the doctor. Around noon every day I just want to go home and go to bed.
How did you keep down your water? I can't remember anything from last time. Also, I feel hungry ALL THE TIME! I eat and then feel hungry again. So hungry the hunger is also nausea! After dinner last time, 20 minutes later and I was STARVING! Is this normal?

Re: ALL DAY Sickness
This is exactly me to a T. I could have written your exact post. I'm 12 weeks and I'm sorry to say it hasn't gotten any better. I've been on Zofran since 7 weeks and it's done absolutely nothing. With my DS I was really sick until 16 weeks but the Zofran at least gave me a few hours of relief each day. This time I mind as well not be taking it at all...it does nothing. I'm sick 24/7 since 6 weeks. I'm so nauseous all the time but I also always feel like I need to eat. If I don't eat I feel worse, but then when I do eat I still feel sick or I feel hungry again 10 minutes later. The only thing that helps is laying down on my side with one leg to my chest (don't ask me why...I have no idea).
I try to drink some fruit juice throughout the day - I find the sugar helps. I also drink some (caffeine free) pepsi or coke...the carbonation seems to help. And as for the water...the ONLY way I can keep it down is if it's ice cold and I drink it through a straw. I have to sip it slowly.
It's been rough. I feel your pain. I swear I'm really thinking this might be my last baby. I don't know that I can go through this again. And unfortunately my doctor has been less than empathetic....he didn't even want me on the Zofran and gave me a really hard time about taking it, which of course made me feel guilty. It sucks because we wanted this baby SO badly and we're thrilled, but I'm absolutely miserable because I've been sick for every second of the last 7 weeks straight. I just want to enjoy the pregnancy, but right now I just can't. I hope it gets better for you and feel free to vent away if you need to

ALL DAY Sickness
This is SO terrible to say but I'm happy someone gets what I'm saying! LITERALLY going through the same thing! It took me a long time to say "Ok, I can do this, we can have another one" because I was SO sick last time and have a fear of the hospital with a toddler at home.
I wasn't sure if fruit juice would be ok. I was going to ask the doctor tomorrow about Gatorade, if I water it down. I HATE caffeine free so I have to stay way from it if I can. I WISH I liked ginger ale or seltzer, but I don't drink those either. It's a constant battle because I feel SO thirsty and hungry but I feel so nauseous afterwards that I don't want to do it.
Don't let the doctor make you feel bad about Zofran! I weigh the good against the bad. Dehydration is NO JOKE so know you are doing everything you can to help your baby! I do remember that the nutritionist that they gave me last time (because of the hyperemesis) told me to try a juice box in the freezer and then eat it like a slushie. I might have to try that this time, it might help me get through the work day. I can't keep leaving!
I hope you feel better soon! You're ahead of me so hopefully you'll feel better quickly and I'll meet you on the other side of trying to enjoy our pregnancies!

Re: ALL DAY Sickness
DS was born almost 7 years ago and I still distinctly remember telling my ExH while laying in the ER getting pumped full of fluids and zofran "you better enjoy this one because its the only kid you're getting out of me". Stupid me re-married and so I ended up doing it all over again anyway
It's hard because my DH sees other pregnant women and says "they seem fine. they're not complaining" and I want to SMACK him. Most people just think I'm mildly queasy here and there. They don't understand the extent of sick that I am. Literally every.single.moment. of every day...the kind of sick where you contemplate just moving into your bathroom and building a fort around your toilet where the two of you would live for eternity....because that's how long every day feels like. It's honestly torture. I literally want to hug you right now because I feel for you and I know how horrible it is and no one else gets it unless they've been there.
I hear you on the caffeine free. There's a taste difference and normally I don't drink it. The ginger ale only helped me for the first 2 weeks and then I became sick of that. The fruit juice I literally only have a small glass as I'm leaving for work. I also don't drink seltzer, so that was out. The thing is...everything I find that helps, only lasts for a few days and suddenly the thought repulses me and I cant touch it again. For a while, orange soda was doing it. Now I cant look at it without gagging. The blue Gatorade does help sometimes, so maybe give that a try? Someone also told me to try Italian ices. I bought a box, had ONE (which I did enjoy at the time) but then literally the very next day I couldn't even look at the frozen cups in the freezer without almost losing it. So...I've got 6 cherry and pineapple Italian ices that have been sitting in my freezer for the past month if you want them
I wonder if the ICEE's that Burger King sells would be okay? Its like a slushie. I also add lemon slices to my ice water and sometimes that makes it more bearable.
Work is the worst. I've blown through so many sick days in the last few weeks. I had to tell my boss well before I wanted to just because I was practically dying at my desk and running to the bathroom so often. Once he knew, it was a lot better for me because I wasn't trying to "hide" that I was so sick all the time. But I keep little cans of coke at my desk to sip on when I'm REALLY bad.
I hope it starts to get better for us both soon!

Re: ALL DAY Sickness
I've been searching the forums for ideas on how to cope with "morning"...um....scratch that: "24/7" sickness. You ladies are well ahead of me + this post is old, but I'll chime in anyways, as man oh man, this sucks! How on earth have you ladies coped!!!!???!! I've only had to endure the torture, thus far, for a mere ten days. How do you resist the urge to languor in bed (or perched over the "Game" of Thrones) all day long???
The worst arrives at night. If I wake up for any reason (that is, if I'm even able to fall asleep to begin with), I can't get back to sleep because the nausea is so bad. So I'm averaging only 2hrs of sleep or so per night. This is exhausting. The summer heat also exacerbates, so if my cat or main squeeze cuddle up to me during the middle of the night (anyone notice their kitties becoming more affectionate while pregnant???), I feel sicker. (My man has had to put up with frigid AC temperatures, accordingly.) I've also been unable to cook because the aroma of any stove-top concoction summons visions of Girl Scout cookies as well. (When my man cooked sea bass with garlic last night at 10:30pm, then asked me to take a taste, I gagged. He now knows to keep the door to the bedroom shut.)
In my case the nausea is so discomforting I have NO appetite. But the thought of eating anything makes me feel sicker, though unless constantly eating or nibbling on something (including frequent trips to scarf down bread or other carbs during the middle of the night)....the nausea grows worse. (My mom had no morning sickness whatsoever during either of her pregnancies...oh, should I have been so lucky.)
Saltines help a little bit, but they make my mouth really dry. But drinking water re-triggers the nausea. And since I ate very little sugar before my pregnancy, sugary gingerale and lemon candies aren't helping either as the extra sugar + taste of constant tooth brushing are simply reinforcing the queasiness. Potato chips with lots of salt made me feel better yesterday and this morning....for all of ten minutes...but I sure don't want to be eating those by the truckload every day. I also bought lemon juice, clementines, tangerine popsicles, YumEarth organic pops, a honey/lemon/ginger concoction bought at a farm stand, pretzel chips, some sort of organic ginger tea, chocolate milk, frozen yogurt and B6 pills. Nothing has helped much so far.
I don't know what I'll do if this yuckiness continues into my second trimester. Especially since as of yesterday I was put on progesterone supplements, which I've already been warned may make the queasiness worse.
Any alternate suggestions would be very, very, VERY appreciated.
XOX

Re: ALL DAY Sickness
I am 7w and the nausea is ridiculous. I vascillate between completely nauesated to having insane heartburn. Of course, only carbs seems to keep it at bay. Really not looking forward to 33 more weeks of this!

ALL DAY Sickness
I was on zofran my entire pregnancy, up until the day before I delivered (and I wanted to take it the morning I delivered, but was having a section and had to be NPO). Also made frequent trips to the hospital for fluids.
I couldn't keep water down, never mind carbs. I could occasionally manage an apple or a pickle- that was it. By the time I was 20 weeks I was ok as long as I took the zofran.
It's absolutely horrible and the reason why I'm one and done!

Curious...did you have high HCG levels? (I do, somewhat...>25,000 by 5 weeks 2 days. I've heard morning sickness and HCG are often related.) And did you work the first 20 weeks? I run a non-profit, but this nausea is completely debilitating so I've eschewed work this week. (I am typing from bed this very moment.) That said, I can't afford an extended preggo 'vacation.'
If I don't feel better by week 8 I'm totes asking for Zofran.
...and pickles...

Yes, though mostly from home. The days I had to go into the city were a nightmare so I tried to limit them as much as possible.
My HCG levels were off the charts. 56,000 at 5.5 weeks.
Get the zofran. Seriously, I think I would have died without it. I would have shriveled up and died because even the sight of water made my stomach turn. It was SO bad. SO SO bad.

ALL DAY Sickness
I had hyperemesis again this time around and it was TERRIBLE!!! I had homecare IV and worked from home for about a month, until the IV came out of my arm (they had to put a picc line in). I've had 2 hospital stays so far, 1 at 9 weeks and 1 at 11 weeks.
For sleeping you can try unisom and a B6 pill. Take the unisom before bed each night and the B6 3 times a day. It might help and if anything, it will help with your sleep. I was the same way, walking around either throwing up or looking for something to eat (to eventually throw up). The unisom helped TREMENDOUSLY!!! Well, with the sleep part it helped.
As for water, I finally caved and bought those things to make my bottles of water iced tea. I just can't drink water. I'm 20 weeks and water is still not my friend. With my son the nutritionist advised me to take drinks and freeze them. Then eat them as a slushie, that helped too. This pregnancy, I was a big fan of ice chips.
I was also on Zofran both pregnancies and it definitely helped. They might try to give you Diglesis (sp?) which is literally B6 and Unisom before they give Zofran. My sister is an OB so I promise you that the above I said about B6 and Unisom is what she told me to do before my 1st appointment, when my sickness started getting bad again.
I started feeling better around 16-17 weeks this time (so 10 weeks). I still have some nausea sometimes but it's not as often, which is GREAT! Good luck! I know how much it S*CKS!!!!
