Q- Catering a party with lots of diet restrictions

I am planning to host DD's first birthday party at our house. We are inviting about 25 adults and 10 kids. Mostly are immediate family so a majority will come... Anyway so I was thinking of catering it from a local place like Iavarone or a pizza place but I have guests that have specific dietary needs- 4 people are gluten free, 1 person due to a medical issue cannot eat anything with high sodium, and 1 is very diet conscientious and pretty much only eats grilled chicken and salad. Because of this I am thinking maybe it's better to BBQ.... Anyone have any other thoughts on what I could cater? Also if I do cater trays, how many trays is good to feed around 30-35 people?

Not too difficult! Order pizza for most.

Grilled chicken and salad/grilled veggies are good for all those that you mentioned with restrictions (as long as they are made in a GF environment of the people have celiac)

Otherwise just order one GF pie for those 4 people.

I wouldn't be concerned about the person who is "diet conscientious"

If you go the catering route do more GF dishes and less pasta and bread dishes.

I had a bunch of dietary restrictions at a recent get together and I did Greek. It was a hit.

You could go saussage & peppers, grilled chicken and broccoli rabe and/or roasted peppers ..sun dried tomatoes ......

Or just do the GF pizza for that crew.

a big tossed salad can please everyone.

For the 'diet conscious' person ......too bad, they'll have to figure it out. I wouldn't go out of my way for that.

This the low sodium and diet person will deal. Also how are there 4 gluten free in that group when only less than 1% of the population has celiac disease???? I'd let the GF free people figure it out too! You can't make yourself crazy.

LOL i know. It must be a hereditary thing. My son, FIL and FIL's mother all have celiac. My FIL's GF does not have celiac but a gluten sensitivity.

Thanks all for the suggestions. You are right I can't make myself crazy I guess I am just thinking too much into it.

I agree. It's pretty easy and will satisfy everyone's needs (and be good for the kids too - I know my kids aren't big fans of regular catered food).

Gluten Free isn't that hard to do. We just ordered a tray of chicken caccatore and just made sure they didn't use flour on the chicken. We put it over rice which is fine for Gluten Free. You can also order a tray of grilled chicken, just make sure that they don't flour the chicken. Get a big green salad. You can still have bread or heroes or something and the gluten free people just won't eat that. The diet person is on their own, they can just eat salad if they want and the low sodium is hard if they are truly low sodium they should be bringing their own food.

Celiac is tough bc they may not really trust catered food at all. What about making a small tray of baked ziti with gf pasta and then ordering a few trays of the traditional Italian stuff including a nice green salad. You can do ziti a day or two ahead or more than that and just freeze it. No idea on the low sodium diet though.

Re: Q- Catering a party with lots of diet restrictions

Honestly if the gluten free ones have Celiac they will prob bring their own food. My kids and I have Celiac and I usually eat before going somewhere and pack a snack for me. I bring meals for my kids and anything else they might need like a cupcake. Cross contamination is a huge risk for Celiac. My son dipped a chip in onion dip someone had dipped a pretzel in and ended up vomiting all over the kitchen floor. I think he will now remember not to use the community dip lol Celiac and non celiac gluten sensitivity have to be very careful about food. If they are fad dieters then that's a different story lol
