NIPTS screening GHI
Hi,
MY Dr. recommends me taking this test but was wondering if GHI covered it (DH is a city employee) ? did you need pre-authorization? I am 34 will be 35 when I have the baby. Was TTC for 3 years and had one chemical. Just not sure if I want to take this test especially if insurance will not cover it, OOP is $2,000. ETA: I confirmed its just the NIPT not Maternit21

Re: Maternit21/NIPTS screening GHI
I would call your insurance company to find out. I was worried about coverage too but my doctor said if you're high risk- over 35, history of miscarriage or known genetic disorder in the family, then insurances do cover it. I had mine done almost a month ago and no bills yet.

Re: Maternit21/NIPTS screening GHI
There is nothing wrong with the standard test. It's not quite as accurate as the MaterniT21 but up until a few years ago it was really the most commonly used test.
When I went for my NT scan last week they had me meet with a genetic counselor who was able to check my insurance coverage and tell me whether or not it would be covered and how much I would have to pay out of pocket. She even made a phone call for me to confirm. The whole process took under 5 minutes.
You can also call your insurance company yourself and find out if GHI covers the test for normal risk patients.
Good Luck!

It's likely - though not guaranteed - that your insurance will cover it since you'll be 35 when you deliver. Call them.

DH is also a city employee - I got the slip from the doctors office and went right to the lab...had to pay $46 "copay" and took the test. Got a bill in the mail last week for $200. I was a little annoyed but the test was $2800 so I can't complain too much
