Jerking motion during ultrasounds?

We've had a decent number of ultrasounds since we conceived...probably close to 6 so far. At every single ultrasound the baby does this jerking motion. It almost looks like hiccups but to be honest, I find it too coincidental that the baby would have hiccups at EVERY ultrasound. Has anyone else noticed this with their baby? I can't physically feel the movement but it's very evident on the ultrasound screen. It's an almost constant movement throughout the scan and it's like the upper body jerks. I'm starting to worry that there might be something wrong. The doctor hasn't said anything about it but I don't recall my son doing this during ultrasounds and no one else I talk to recalls their baby doing it either. Anyone experience anything similar?

Re: Jerking motion during ultrasounds?

My boys would occasionally jerk with hiccups on their sonograms. The tech would point it out and say they had hiccups. It wasn't every time though. Did the tech ever say anything about it during your sonograms?

My babies were always pretty active, but it generally seems more like a squirming than jerky movement.

I would call the MFM doctor if you are concerned.

My DS did that during the early ultrasounds. Doc said that the baby was learning how to move. And I believe he didn't do it when I got to the 20 week ultrasound.

DD went nuts during my ultra screen. The tech was like "that is one jittery baby!"

She's fine. I wouldn't worry.

She probably doesn't like the ultrasound. She can hear it.
My first didn't really move during most ultrasounds. My second seemed to move away from it.

Babies (even once they're born) have very immature systems. Uncontrolled jerking motions are very common - that's why you swaddle a baby to sleep for the first 3+ months! So what you're seeing is totally normal.
