Stony Brook midwives - 1st prenatal appt
After a bfp and missed period, when will the SB midwives have you come in for a first prenatal appointment to confirm there's a heartbeat and all that good stuff?

Stony Brook midwives - 1st prenatal appt
8 weeks - they did a pretty thorough sono and they recorded the heartbeat. I saw Kris Kocis the first time. She was great- Ive mostly seen Kristin Clemmons since then, but that's only because shes there when I'm able to make my apts due to my work schedule.

Yep, 8 weeks.
They did a sono first (they did external when most offices will do an internal for first appt. but the sono tech said she tries external first, and will only do internal if she can't see what she needs to see or if heartbeat isn't audible--we didn't need the internal) and then I met with one of the midwives (Chris Kocis) to go through everything. They give you a packet of information as well.

Re: Stony Brook midwives - 1st prenatal appt
Oh man. My last pregnancy I went to a different practice and I came in around 6.5 weeks and was able to hear heartbeat. It's going to feel like an eternity to wait until 8 weeks.

I think it's becoming more the norm to wait until 8-10 weeks, simply because anything can happen in the first few weeks, plus you can't always see things super early.

I'm jealous you didn't need the internal. I had it done at the first apt along with the external and the tech was a bit over zealous

Stony Brook midwives - 1st prenatal appt
I was 7w1d but only because I have longer cycles and they went by my LMP which, if I had a 28 day cycle, would have put me at 8w1d.

I was totally expecting an internal so when she was like, ok, lay down and pull up your shirt I was so happy! I think my sono tech's name was Brenna
