If you are cautious about Listeria, what do you avoid?
If you are super cautious about Listeria, what do you avoid? Do you think there is any risk in eating a fast food hamburger, if the cheese has not been heated super hot?

Cheese is only a problem if it's not pasteurized. You only have to worry if it's fresh, like feta. Fast food cheese is usually processed so you are good. Otherwise just cold cuts like PP's said and hot dogs unless they are really cooked well.

Also no soft serve ice cream because the machines they're served out of are only cleaned like once a week. Also I've been avoiding salads from take out because there have been a lot of listeria infections in veggies recently as well.

Listeria can really be anywhere like PP have mentioned. From vegetables to soft serve to cold cuts. My doctor just said to skip cold cuts and soft cheese.

If you are cautious about Listeria, what do you avoid?
If you are that concerned about listeria, you're kind of limited with what you can eat since it seems like it can be found anywhere.

Listeria can be found in anything. You need to avoid unpasteurized cheese, which you will not come across unless you specifically seek it out, like in a specialty cheese shop. Anything you get in a restaurant will be pasteurized, no one is milking a cow in the kitchen.
The only things my OB said to avoid were alcohol, large quantities of caffeine, sushi and undercooked meat/eggs.

My RE told me to avoid soft serve ice cream, cold cuts, unpasteurized cheeses and she recommended that I wash all fruits and veggies including fruits that you DO NOT eat the skin like cantaloupe. The reason for washing all fruits and veggies is when you cut the food up you can introduce the bacteria into the fruit from the skin.

Not true about the cheese. I was in a steakhouse while pregnant and they had several dishes with an unpasteurized gorgonzola. This was George Martin's Strip Steak.

This. Fruit, veges (fresh AND frozen) Hummus Frozen organic pizza Blue Bell Ice Cream Salad in the bag Quaker granola bars
All of these and more that I am sure I am forgetting have veen linked to Listeria outbreaks in the past year alone.
So far the only think I have not heard of a listeria outbreak in is cold cuts.
And the cheese on a fast food hamburger is processed American cheese. It's not the kind of cheese they tell you to avoid

I'm going through a high risk pregnancy that requires me to see both a high risk OBGYN and a MFM. Both did not give me restrictions on what to eat because as mentioned before listeria can be found anywhere. However, they did tell me to be conscience of where I get my food. Avoid place that look sketchy and go to places that are known for being clean and having fresh food. Don't drive yourself crazy with this just be more aware of where your food comes from.

I also had high risk pregnancies and saw MFM's instead of an OB and did not have any restrictions as well.
