Star program changes
So I get a letter from the town of Brookhaven stating for new star applicants- we bought our house in 2015 and I sent the star in by December, that new applicants will no longer be a part of the original star program and we just get a check for the star amount by December. I went online and confirmed with NY taxation. It seems that those who currently have star will continue to recieve it and those that are new applicants will be mailed a one time check. Does anyone have more info! Will this continue yearly? I think I would have rathered a monthly change in my payments

I have not heard of this, is this only for The Town of Brookhaven? I am looking to move in the next year or 2 and I do not like this idea. I guess you could always just deposit check in your escrow account no?

Re: Star program changes
Yes, they have changed the way the STAR program is administered. It will no longer be administered on the Town/County level.
It is a statewide change.
If you are a new applicant for the STAR program you will receive a check for the full benefit each year. If you already have the STAR exemption in place, nothing changes. It will appear as a reduction on your tax bill.

Yes we bought in 2015 and received the same letter. I believe if you had the STAR credit prior to 2015 nothing changes.
Apparently we will get a check sometime in the fall/winter.

Ok wanted to see if it was across the board! I just did the online application. We can't deposit into escrow- legally they can't have an overage and hold on to money. My payment went down a whole $3 one month just to compensate for an overage!

Star program changes
So I just applied on the website last week. So I will just get a direct check sent? Nothing off mortgage taxes?

Yup it's just a direct check now, no change in the mortgage. I read through some more stuff this afternoon
