If you can get someone to get you an etools code from their week 1 book (I can look and see if mine has one) then it's 12.95 a month. I think there is a 3 month savings plan too.
I like it because it just has tons and tons of foods in the database, plus you get access to recipes and the recipe builder to put in your own recipes.
I joined meetings and got the monthly pass and etools is included free in that.

Does it rewrite recipes for you? Like, will it tell you - use margarine instead of butter, use applesauce instead of oil and recalculate the points?

No. You would have to change out the ingredients yourself.

No. You would have to change out the ingredients yourself.

Same here, I don't know if it would be worth it if I had to pay much for it, but I do use it to journal online.
