Another daycare question

We went to look at one daycare which I liked but it doesn't have cameras. DH is insistent on cameras being available so we can check throughout the day. Do a lot of daycare centers offer that? Is it a requirement for you?

Mine didn't.
They had cameras so that the front desk could see each room and I am assuming it was recorded for security purposes or if there was an issue of any kind they could review the tapes.

I would have liked it, it would have been good to have been able to see her.
But it wasn't a deal breaker. I loved the place so much I wasn't go to not chose it because it didn't have cameras.

And then I could see myself getting no work done because I'd be staring at my DD sleeping or eating or playing all day.

I looked at a bunch, both privately owned and chains and none of them live streamed the classrooms.

Most will have them but they do not let you look at them throughout the day. It can be a security issue.

I would just want the camera there for security reasons if there was an issue. I would not care about a live feed to check in on.

I worked in a daycare, a big chain one, that uses cameras. They don't even look at them. I once needed help (not an emergency but the room was way over ratio, I was new, and the kids were OOC) and stood screaming at the camera begging for someone to come help me. No one came. No one heard a damn thing.

There is one my son goes to that is a pre-k/ daycare and there are cameras in the rooms (it is set up like a school) but you have to request to go into the media room to view them.

They don't have them for parents at our day care and I wouldn't want them. Too easy for hackers to get in and watch my babies. I send my children to a center I feel comfortable with and trust that they take care of my children.

Ours had them for DS, but honestly we never ever used them. I dont have time to "drop in" to daycare to watch my son on a camera. If I had time for that, I'd be home with him The only real benefit to having them is possible security purposes. But even then, when our original daycare had them and there was an incident with my DS (he came home bruised one day and we questioned it) they never even attempted to review the footage. I'm not even sure if it actually records or just projects onto the TV in the Director's office.

Mine has them. Not having them would be a deal breaker for me. They allow the owner and parents to go back and review the tape if something happens. It gives me piece of mind. I know that if I ever had a bad feeling, I could review the tape. They can't all be hacked. It depends on how they're setup, just like baby monitors.

ETA: They are not setup for parents to access at anytime remotely. That would make me uncomfortable.

I never even asked about cameras, but DS goes to daycare (now nursery) in a large JCC facility.

If someone were in MY home or I was using an in home daycare, I might feel differently, but at the facility he's in I didn't even think of it.

(Of course, he's older, and he didn't start attending daycare until he was 10 months old - before then he was watched by family.)

Thanks all. DH has a coworker who's child is in a daycare that offers remote access. He was shocked that many of them near us don't offer that to parents.
