Flu shot during pregnancy

During cold season, I never got the flu shot...my dr is telling me I should get the flu shot for the baby... I'm 37 weeks tomorrow....what are everyone's thoughts on the shot?

I did get it during my last pregnancy. The doctor said it protects baby for months after birth and they can not get the shot themselves until they are a certain age. We were fine, so I will take it again if it is recommended by my doctor.

Yep i got it with both pregnancies. Also got the h1n1 a few years back. My dr recommended it, so i got it.

Get it! Your baby won't be able to get the flu shot this year so by getting it, you'll be providing your baby with some immunity! You do not want a newborn to get the flu.

Absolutely get it! Your baby will be too young to get it this winter and if you get it now the antibodies will pass to them. The flu for a newborn can be very, very serious.

I did not get it with either pregnancy because I'd never had it before and was fine. First kid was born in March and she was fine and at 2.5, has never had a flu shot. In fact, DH had gotten the flu shot that year and ended up with the flu while we were at the hospital having her and the baby and I were fine and never caught it.

My second was born in September. In February at 5.5 months old, 2 weeks before she would have been able to get the shot, she came down with the flu and rsv. When I noticed her breathing was off, we ended up in the ER where her oxygen levels turned out to be in the 70-80 range. They went to intubate, lost her airway, and she went into cardiac arrest. Thankfully 15-20 minutes of CPR finally brought her back but she'll never be the same. She was hospitalized for a total of 60 days including 2.5 weeks of rehab. She will be 1 next week and has the motor functions of a 1-2 month old and we're looking at a likely diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

We're all getting the flu shot this upcoming season and while we are not having any more children, if we did, I would be getting the flu shot without question.

I was never offered it. My OB never brought it up and as I had never gotten a flu shot in my life I just didn't think of it.
Luckily all was fine.

DD started getting the shot as soon as she was able to at 6 months and every year after.

Last year she got the shot as always and got the flu.
I guess the shot was not very effective last year.

Yes I got it but before I knew I was pregnant. My primary care doctor offered it to me when I went to him during my annual physical. He said that it would be a good idea since I told him DH and I were TTC. Not known to both of us but I was already pregnant at that visit.

I'm glad I did though because my FIL came down with the flu and my in-laws watch DS 3 times a week so DS was around my FIL. DS didn't get the flu and he was 5 months at the time.

No. I've never had the flu shot.

Thanks everyone I decided to get the shot. I just have to wait until my next appointment
