What is the name of this new 12w genetic/gender blood test?
My sister is due any day now and she had a blood test done at 12w that determined gender - I don't think we are going to do it because DH wants to wait for the scan but I know this test didn't exist when I had DS 3 years ago. What is the name of it? I'm curious just to see if my insurance does cover it and I can convice DH

They are genetic tests and finding out the gender early is a bonus. There are a couple that I know of MaterniT21, Panorama, and Harmony
ETA: I believe insurance may cover it if you are of AMA or have a history of abnormalities.

They have so many names but my Dr. called it NIPTS - Non - Invasive Pre-Natal Testing

Mine was the MaterniT21. I had it done at 13 weeks. If you are over 35, insurance should cover.

A few years ago I had the Verifi blood test done, which I think can be done after 9 weeks.

That's what I had 3.5 yrs ago. Knew gender by 12/13 weeks.

These tests are for genetic screening and done if you are 35+ or have predisposition to genetic disorders in your family. I havent heard of someone getting it just to know the sex.

I have heard this too - we have no family history of any genetic disorders nor are we over 35, my sister said her practice had a contract with the company that does them so they pretty much give it to everyone.
I'm not dying to get it done, just wasn't sure what it was all about.

You can always request it, insurance just may not cover it. I know people that have gotten the test done without insurance and still didn't pay the full price--they paid $150-200

What is the name of this new 12w genetic/gender blood test?
My sister is only 33 with no abnormal pregnancies and she was able to get it done at no additional cost. She said at her office, everyone now does it. (She has a 1 and 3 year old and it wasn't available with either of those pregnancies).
