How clean should my house be for the house cleaner
Never done this before. We have lots of toys and random clutter, how much should I clean before they come?

We clean mail, papers etc off the counters. Pick up all the dog toys in the living room. Clean off dresser tops etc. basically just clean up anything you want out of their way so they can actually clean.

This...but with 4 kids, I dread preparing for the cleaning crew. My mornings are chaos trying to get my house in order before they show up.

Yes clean all the clutter off of counters, dressers, floors. If they have to keep moving things and are picking up things off the floor, they won't be able to accomplish as much. Honestly I usually take a big box or Rubbermaid bin, and toss all the random shit in there and put it in my basement or garage!

YES! I hate when the cleaners are coming, we do a ton of prep work decluttering for them and putting out cleaning supplies and rags. We basically leave the house spotless so that they can actually CLEAN, not just pick up and organize our things.
I also make all the beds, put away any laundry. I don't like the idea of someone else touching my bedding and clothes, which is probably weird.

Not weird at all. Mine will do this for me but I won' let her. I don't like her touching my bed or laundry either. But to be fair its not just her I don't like anyone touching my bed or laundry.
To the OP, we just make sure the clutter is gone. So anything left out on a counter, fold/put away any laundry. My office tends to be a disaster with paperwork, so I just pile it up and put it in a draw for when she is there. She will move and clean around things but paperwork she doesn't like to move at all and I appreciate that so I make sure it is out of her way.
