If you've recently had cats declawed...
Can you please share where? I have called a few vets and keep getting the we don't do that speech. I am not here for an ethics lesson on declawing cats, just a reference. Tx

Check to see if NY state passed a law against it. They were talking about doing so.... I just don't know if that ever got passed.

There were a lot of news stories about it back in May, but I dont' think it passed yet. I see online that it's still a bill in the Senate. Not sure how long it will take or if it will pass.
I don't know of any vets who do it though anymore, sorry
Wait, I lie. This was like 7 years ago, but when we took our kittens to be spay/neutered the voucher from the shelter was from Westhampton Animal Hospital. And I remember specifically the vet there asking if we wanted to have them declawed as well. Maybe call there and see if they still do it.

Because it's finally being proved what an inhumane thing it is to do to cats. It's the equivalent of cutting off your fingers or toes at the knuckles. It also can begin to grow back distorted and will feel to the cat like what we would fell like if we walked around with pebbles in our shoes constantly. Not sure why people still look to do this. So many other alternatives and if it's still an issue then maybe you shouldn't own a cat.

There are bills in Committee, but it's not illegal yet in NY.
I haven't had a cat in years, so I don't know any vets who do it.

Going to be illegal very soon, and most vets won't do it knowing this (and knowing why it will be illegal, as it's extremely inhumane).

No, sorry, I just used your post as a platform to explain why so many are now against it.

THis! This exactly! Besides what above poster posted, it has also been proven to cause arthritis and other problems in cats. I know you said you didn't want an " ethics" speech, though I'm not sure how being against amputation is an ethical dilemma, or not making your pet have painful bone issues for their lifetime, but please do NOT get a cat if you are planning on declawing it. Get a fish or bird.

Anyone who does this is cruel and heartless. Don't own a pet if you plan to horribly disfigure them.

Maybe look into adopting a cat that's already declawed.

When we adopted our cat, we had to sign a disclosure that said we would never get her declawed. AND they came to check on her about 9 months later! So, if you are adopting, beware!
My cat scratches stuff...it's annoying. BUT, I just got a new couch, and I put clear packaging tape on the corners, and it seems to be working! So if you have a scratcher, try the tape. I remove it before company comes lol
