Day 6 cryofreeze -UPDATE
Hi ladies,
So I just got a call. They were supposed to cryofreeze the 7 embroyos left on day 5 which would have been yesterday. For some reason they left them to grow another day which is Day 6(today).
They cryofreezed 3 embroyos. My question is why do you think they left them to grow one more day? Does that mean they weren't doing well and wanted to watch them another day?
Or does it mean that they were doing well and the doctor knows I didn't want to have so many embroyos left that maybe he left them to grow another day and see if nature took its course?
I'm not sure what to think and I can't call the doctor today. Does anyone want to share their thoughts or if they have experience with a day 6 cryofreeze on their embroyos.

Day 6 cryofreeze
not sure but your best bet is to ask them. I never heard of day 6, someone else might have.
I would suggest asking how a 6 day freeze changes your chances for a successful outcome

Re: Day 6 cryofreeze
Yes thank you hun. I called 2 hours ago and left a message for the embroyogist. Hopefully they will call me back today but if not, I will be calling the nurse back tomorrow.

Re: Day 6 cryofreeze
hmm...interesting.
Every lab has different procedures, methodologies. Usually by day 5 its hatching into the blastocycst stage. So im not sure day 6 is a bad thing.
so you had 7 embies and only able to freeze 3..so the other 4 stopped developing? Maybe they were on the cusp at day 5 and wanted to watch it another day.

Day 6 cryofreeze
They probably wanted to freeze them when they got to blast. My clinic won't freeze them on day 5 if they aren't blast. They will still watch them until day 6 and freeze if at blast stage. If not dis-guarded.

Yes. I'm not sure what happened to the other 4 embroyos. I'm guessing they didn't make it. But I feel better after what you said..maybe they were on the cusp at day 5 and that's why they are letting them grow. I hope so.

Re: Day 6 cryofreeze
A lot of REs freeze at day 6. Often, though, some are slowing at day 5 and aren't yet blasts and they give them the extra day to decide one way or another - if they were just slow-growing or they were arresting.

Okay thank you. But if they were arresting then they wouldn't have froze them right?

That is correct. Think about it-- they need to survive a thaw, so ones that are arresting would not make sense to freeze.

Day 6 cryofreeze
Yes the preference is to wait till they get to blast. I had 2 frozen on day 5 as they were already blasts and the others were early blasts so they were waiting to see if they got to the blast stage later on.

Re: Day 6 cryofreeze -UPDATE
UPDATE:
Okay so I spoke to the director of the embryology department. And they froze them on day 6 because they weren't ready yet on day 5. (Thank you for all who commented you were right!)
I asked the grade of the three cryo embryos and he said 2 of them are what is called extended blasts grade 2 (B quality) he said they are most advanced at this stage and ready to burst out.
Then I have 1 embroyo at the Blastocyte stage with a grade 2/3 B- quality) it's right where it should be but not ready to burst out just yet.
So I hope this all means good news! Thanks ladies for your comments and support it really helped me yesterday!

Re: Day 6 cryofreeze -UPDATE
That makes a lot of sense. Hoping you don't need them but if you do, they seem like good quality embryos.
