dress
I put on black sheer stockings with a long sleeved lace dress. It didn't look right to me. Could I wear tan sheer ones instead? I would like to look formal.

If it is a black lace dress, an opaque black stocking, might look better.

I have on a black dress today (Not lace) and black tights, and I feel it's too much. So I hear ya.
I would go with nude very very sheer pantyhose. (see my pantyhose thread for suggestions).
I think black on black is too much sometimes especially with a lace dress
