BRCA1 Gene UPDATED
Just got tested today. Probably a month or so before I get results. I'm Nervous but not really. Mainly because being nervous won't change the results. I need to save the nerves for if I have it.
Anyone test +?
If so, did you take any prophylactic measures right away or start with meds and watching, etc?
I know my options. Just curious to see what others have done, plan to do or would do in this case.
And if whatever you did actually did lower your risk.

BRCA1 Gene
I had the test done maybe 4 years ago. My mom and 2 aunts are carriers of the gene. I thankfully do not carry the gene. But the doctor went over everything if I did come back as a carrier and I guess I had come to peace that I would push up having kids and having them close together and then taking all the necessary moves.

Edit to add: I now need to set an appointment with a genetic specialist because my mom is also a carrier of the lynch gene which goes with Colon Cancer.

I saw dr cooperman at northern Obstetrics
He's a genetic counselor and obgyn. He was very informative and I really liked him.

I've never been tested but I work in oncology research (specifically breast for nearly a decade). I've done quite a bit of work with BRCA mutations and I personally would not take prophylactic measures.

I'm trying to do as much research as I can before finding out so I'm ready.

Dr gave me a bunch of options. First being meds and watching. But I'm not so sure about waiting to get cancer and then treating it.
